how to wear a utility vest in spring or summer - fashion over 50

It finally feels like spring is in the air and I didn't waste one minute busting out this pretty t-shirt I bought a couple of weeks ago at Loft (same).  I love the mixture of warm toned colors and think they work perfectly with my olive utility vest.

I dressed the whole outfit up a bit with this pretty necklace from Kohls (same) that I bought to wear
with a dress that I share last week for our Women's Untea at church.  It is proving to be a versatile piece that I reach for quite often.

I think the white jeans lighten up the outfit for spring or summer wear, especially if you add a cute pair of flat sandals.

I love all the pretty necklaces that are popular right now (especially since you can find them on sale regularly) and adding one to an outfit doesn't have to cost a lot of money.    Even the dressiest ones can be worn with your casual, every day clothes to add just the right something that will take your style to the next level.

I really like the look of a utility vest and tried a few different brands before settling on this one from Nordstrom (same) last fall.  It was a little bit more than I would normally pay for a vest but it is such a classic piece that I know I'll wear for years and the fit, detail and construction are top notch.  And although I bought it to wear when the weather cools down in autumn, I love how it looks with a pretty top in any season.

Do you own a utility vest?  Is it a look that you're comfortable with?  My husband teases me when I wear mine and asks where I'm going fishing at, but I don't care, I love it anyway.

I guess it all comes back to figuring out what we love style wise and finding ways to incorporate that look into our closet.  If you had asked me if I would be wearing white jeans or shorts a couple of years ago I would have laughed at you.  But now?  My answer would be I don't know, I like how they look on other people so let me try on a few hundred pairs and I'll get back to you.

Now if I can just learn to be that brave and experimental with food...sushi anyone?   Nah, I'm not quite ready for that just yet!

  1. So cute! I have one of those vests and have worn it a hundred times. It's the perfect little light layer to add on some days.

  4. I don't own one but love the look. I would like one to wear when I don't want to carry a purse! ie... going to a flea market, or yard sales or walking the malls or shopping centers..... would be neat if they'd make them in white or cream! That would be awesome.... I think I'd go with a beige or khaki color. It's really cute with the white jeans.. never would have thought of that. and hum.m.m.m. I don't notice ANY advertising on your blog! which I love! Marilyn
