I'm not normally partial to any one month more than the other but the ease of October has got me under it's spell. There is nothing spectacular about it and maybe there in lies its charm.
The days are kissed by the sun and the nights have a hint of the coolness to come, perfect days for reading and nesting and dreaming.
I haven't had anything new to share with you by way of decorating or art projects which is why I've posted less than normal but today I was feeling especially content and thought why not share the quiet bliss moments as well as the "tada's" of my life.
A little reading, a little music making, a little playtime and a whole lot of joy in the simple things. To just sit down and breathe...it's exactly what my heart needed.
Are you feeling it, too?

I normally don't do much decorating inside for Halloween but this year I was inspired by all the fun displays I have been seeing online.
And my newly painted white hutch provided the perfect backdrop for a little spooktacular decor. Not too much as I got a late start and most of the Halloween stuff is gone by labor day...but just enough to get us all in the fun spirit of the holiday.
My grandson helped me spookify the front porch with spider webs, bugs and all manor of creepy, crawly things and I'll be back to share all that fun with you later in the week.
What about you do you decorate for Halloween or is yours more of a fall display? Have you posted your pics somewhere? Invite me over for a virtual tour, I'd love to come see.

I love the idea of simplifying every room in our home by removing those things that aren't used often in favor of a little more open space. I have really tried to de-clutter as I'm working through the house room by room.
When I redid the kitchen a couple of months ago I removed all the appliances off the main counter area placing them in cabinets with the exception of the coffee maker. However, I've noticed over time that there is one item we pull out almost daily...the toaster.
I managed to find a permanent spot for it next to the coffee bar and have renamed the little area, "Breakfast and coffee bar" (original, I know). Now the area functions much better for our families day to day living.
What about you? Besides the coffee maker, what is the one appliance you use the most?

I thought I'd take a minute to address that little space between my stove and refrigerator today. I guess I never did let you in on how that happy accident happened. (Thank you Apartment Therapy for the reminder.)
When I made my list of things I needed to address in the kitchen before the revamp, the space between the fridge and stove was right up there. If I pushed the appliances as far apart as possible it gave me seven inches to work with.
My original thought was to make a pull out shelf on wheels that I could store baking sheets in but I am not a power saw girl and my husband was not working on my time frame (he wasn't ready to drop his list of projects to cut all the pieces for me, go figure...lol) so I went to plan B.
I placed a 6" x 30" shelf on top of a baluster leg and attached the unit to the wall with a 1 x 2 piece of scrap lumber secured to a stud. Once it was done "we" decided it didn't quite look right with the leg exposed so I pulled a piece of scrap bead board (which happened to be exactly the right size) to see how it would look if I covered it up.
Here's were the lucky accident happened. As I was contemplating adding a piece of wood to the front, it dawned on me how much the bead board looked like little drawers set horizontally.
One trip to Home Depot later, I added the hammered black nobs using a template I made out of paper to center the hole and a little scrap lumber kick plate at the bottom and wa-la instant "drawers"!
One day hubby man has promised to make me my plan A unit and I can just pop the front mock drawers off of plan B and attach it. In the meantime, my ingenuity is working out just beautifully.
