I hope you all had a nice Memorial Day celebration whatever you chose to do. Today is a back to work day and the return to a normal (albeit short) weekly schedule. At least there's only four days till the weekend, right?

I am off in a bit for a BBQ at my mom's but I wanted to pop in and wish you all a Happy Memorial Day. I have been blessed and honored to know many veterans in my immediate family including my dad, two brothers, one daughter and a son in law who is currently deployed on a Naval vessel as I type.

I had one of those restless nights where you find yourself wide awake at 1:00 in the morning with the weight of the world on your mind and no chance of falling back to sleep. You know, the kind where you debate whether or not to just get up or lay in bed for 30 more minutes willing yourself to slumber.
I hate those nights. I'm fortunate not to have them very often but when I do they are doozies. I wish I

When I worked outside the home the Friday before a three day weekend was always my favorite. The thought of three days stretching out in front of me with no reason to get dressed up and all that time to putter in the house was such a glorious feeling. Ironically, now that I work from home I look for reasons to get dressed and sometimes avoid what needs to be done at home. Ha, ha! I guess it's true, we want whatever we don't have.
In that vein, now that I am posting five days of fashion, I miss sharing some of the other things going

Now that I don't work outside the home it's nice to dress things up a bit whenever I can. I don't own as many "nice" things as I used to but I always make sure to have a pair of black dress pants and a couple of dresses that fit well in my closet.

I am getting a little tired of our Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde weather. (Are there any Once Upon A Time fans out there? I'm already stressing over next season!) One minute I'm reaching for a sweater and the next I'm throwing on flip flops. What's with that? I'm ready for a little consistency, aren't you?

How can it be Monday again, already? These last few weeks have been rolling by at breakneck speed and we are three days away from school being out for the summer around here. And with that news, the sun has finally decided to shine and the pep has returned in my step.

Early Summer Wardrobe Challenge
Ten Items/Ten Outfits
I am so excited to be sharing my first wardrobe challenge with you today. I have been working hard to put it together and I am really hoping that you join me for as many days of styling as possible. If you are like me getting dressed can sometimes be like figuring what to have for dinner. Same old, same old...boooring! I am hoping to inspire you to see your old clothes in a new light and to show you that getting dressed doesn't have to take a lot of time, effort or money.
Here are the items I'll be styling. You'll get the complete weeks worth of outfits of the day the weekend before I post them on my blog. The wardrobe list explains the challenge instructions in full. Trust me this will be fun and because they are your own clothes it fits any size or age group.
The wardrobe list will go out right away and the first challenge outfit will be sent out Sunday to wear on Monday. Clear as mud? Don't worry, I'll explain more as we go along.
xo, Patty
As I poured my second cup of coffee this morning I glanced around my kitchen and smiled at the remnants of yesterdays activities. While the food is cleared away, there are still a few dishes left in the sink, keys, mail and sunglasses have once again accumulated on the kitchen counter and there's a roll of wrapping paper hanging out on the kitchen table. You know, the usual morning clutter of life is strewn about.
So I decided to take my coffee and head outside to enjoy the quiet backyard garden in the crisp

I think it's fun to use pinterest or other blogs to find inspiration for an outfit. I believe that copying a look someone else has put together really is the highest form of flattery especially when the look is so easily adapted to what you might have hanging in your closet already and refer to my style board on pinterest often.

I love the soft colors of spring just as much the bright colors of summer. So when I went looking in my closet for something to throw over this pretty swiss dot peplum from Old Navy (same and on sale) and my coral chinos from Loft, I immediately reached for this pink and coral cardigan (similar).

It finally feels like spring is in the air and I didn't waste one minute busting out this pretty t-shirt I bought a couple of weeks ago at Loft (same). I love the mixture of warm toned colors and think they work perfectly with my olive utility vest.
I dressed the whole outfit up a bit with this pretty necklace from Kohls (same) that I bought to wear
We are still waiting for the sun to shine here in "sunny" Southern California, with cloud covering and drizzle the norm the last week or so. I have been wearing more sweaters and boots than sandals and tank tops but I know that will change soon enough.
One of my favorite ways to brighten up a dreary day is by putting on brightly colored clothes and
Even though I have always loved clothes, I spent many of my middle years in the same boring things because I thought that dressing cute was for young, thin women and my best looking years were left in the dust (along with my sanity) once my children came along and life got busy.

Hooray for the weekend! This one is appreciated even more than most for me as we have not one single thing going on. Yay for us! I do have a date with some major cleaning but that's okay, I know I'll be so glad when it's all done and I can pour that glass of wine tonight, pop some popcorn, kick up my feet and enjoy a movie with my honey.
I have a mixed bag of bloggers to share with you today but I know you're going to love them all. So

Hello Friday and hello my fellow fashion friends! I can't believe how quickly these last two weeks have flown by. If it's okay with you, I might just continue on for a while and see how it goes.
For the end of our summer fashion series I thought it would be only right to end in the same fashion (pun intended) as it began, with jeans and a T-shirt.

I found these cropped skinny chinos at Loft when I went in to make some returns a couple of weeks ago. I have been on the look out for a couple of non-jean casual pants and these fit the bill perfectly.

I have to admit this one is a bit out of my comfort zone. I love shorts in the summertime...just not on me. I used to wear shorts all the time but as I've gotten older my confidence in my legs has waned considerably. So I set out on a bit of a mission to see if there were a couple of brands that hid what I needed to hide but still looked fashionable.
Shorts are sold by length of inseam (here is a great post on them from Cyndi Spivey) and finding the

Last Saturday our church had it's annual women's "untea" event and I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to wear a dress. I honestly can't tell you the last time I wore a dress but I'm sure it's been a couple of years. I'm not sure why that is, maybe my life just doesn't involve as many dress occasions or maybe I just fell out of the habit.
Since it's been so long I thought I'd head out to Kohl's and see what I could find. I actually tried on

I'm sure it's no secret how much I love using pinterest as a spring board for all kinds of inspiration especially fashion. My style board is one of my favorite to add pins to and it's where I found the inspiration for mixing orange, blue and white.
I just love the bold mix of color in this photo from My Style pinterest board. I knew I had just about
Happy Mother's Day. Here's a repost from a couple of years ago that still remains so true. My mom is still amazing at 82 and Sunny was renamed Pepper and is a joy to her owner and definitely won the puppy lottery when she was placed in my moms loving care. xo, Patty

With the promise of warmer weather it's time to start thinking about entertaining outdoors. Having friends over in the early afternoon is always so much fun. If you sometimes struggle with what to do to entertain friends before you sit down to eat I have a fun suggestion.

Yesterday we talked a bit about proportions when wearing a looser pair of jeans and the need to keep the top more fitted to avoid a boxy look. Today's outfit is a perfect example of the opposite. Tight skinny jeans and a loose flowing blouse.
When I saw this pretty white and navy floral top at Loft I knew it was perfect for me. The flowing fit
Are you guys getting tired of me styling jeans already? It's only day three and I feel like I boxed myself in a bit by limiting my wardrobe to a couple of pairs of blue jeans and one of white for the duration of this series. I don't know but I just might throw in a dress or two before this is over just to break it up a bit.
I'm styling a T-shirt and blue jeans again today but this time it's a pair of relaxed fitting boyfriend jeans. It's important when you wear looser fitting jeans (like boyfriend or even straight leg) that you balance it with a top that has a more fitted shape. Otherwise the overall look can be a bit boxy and unflattering.
I've paired mine with a fitted navy blue T-shirt from Old Navy, another great statement necklace

Welcome back for day two of our series on summer dressing for women over 50. If you are like me then wearing sleeveless blouses or tank tops can make you a bit squeamish. I am working on gaining confidence to show my bare arms along with doing a few isolation exercises to tighten up that loosey goosey under arm area but until then I am always on the look out for cap sleeve blouses that give just a hint of arm coverage. I found a really good selection of them at Kohls and this one from Lauren Conrad's collection (view her current collection here) is one of my favorites.
Today I've paired it with my white straight leg jeans, silver go to jewelry, black chunky heel sandals

Hello there and welcome to my first fashion series here at Lemon Lane Style. I will be focusing on summer clothing specifically targeting women over 50 but I think you'll find that the pieces are timeless and would be just as appropriate and fun on younger women in a non professional environment.
If you're like me you tend to reach for the same four or five items in your wardrobe over and over. I'm
