how to mix bold colors with confidence - fashion at 50

5/17/16

We are still waiting for the sun to shine here in "sunny" Southern California, with cloud covering and drizzle the norm the last week or so.  I have been wearing more sweaters and boots than sandals and tank tops but I know that will change soon enough.

One of my favorite ways to brighten up a dreary day is by putting on brightly colored clothes and
making my own sunshine.  It's not as scary as it seems when you start with a great focal element like a multicolored blouse or scarf.

I opted to use this pretty scarf from Steinmart that I received as a gift for the inspiration for the rest of my outfit.  It has all my favorite colors in it including turquoise, olive, chartruese, salmon, yellow, green, fuschia and white.  I chose to pair it with a salmon colored tank and fuschia cardigan both from Walmart and chunky heeled sandals (similar) from Kohls.

I kept the accessories simple with a pink bangle bracelet, my gold watch and drop earrings in goldtone.  And of course I slipped into my favorite Levi boot cut jeans.

Wearing bold blocks of color shouldn't be an issue as we mature as long as you keep the lines classic and limit the number of patterned pieces you choose.

One of the nicest parts about aging is the confidence that comes with it.  I find myself much more likely to take risks not only with fashion but also with trying new things.  Gone are the days of living in fear of not fitting in.  I say trust your instincts, be bold and do the things that you've been putting off doing.  There is no time like the present and we aren't getting any younger no matter what our age.

  3. So glad you addressed this issue because I really don't understand choosing to wear black, white and beige all the time as some people do. Colors are so much more flattering.

  5. Patty, I love your statement..." be bold and do the things that you've been putting off doing". I have wanted to wear scarves for a long time now but have been afraid to because I am short and busty. I think I can pull it off if I don't wear anything to long or bulky. Thanks for giving me the confidence to do so. I know what Stacey says about people wearing just black, white or beige. A couple of my friends do this. But if they are more comfortable with those colors than that's what they should do. I like to mix it up a little. :-) Have a great day.
