Now that my entryway "closet" is finished it's time to move on to the next project on my forever long list, a family command center. I have been looking forward to sharing my inspiration pictures since I starting pinning them to my Command Centers pinterest board.

Hello my friends. I don't normally post on Saturday but my blogging friend Stacey from Poofing the Pillows invited me to join her every week for Shout Out Saturday and I just couldn't resist. I mean how fun is it to spend a few hours looking through blogs and picking a few favorites to share with you.
Today I decided to focus on color...no surprise there, huh? I thought I'd start with Carol at Art and Sand. She has the most adorable cottage by the sea and she is not shy at all about layering with bold colors. A girl after my own heart...
Next up is my artist friend Sara at The Rosy Life. Sara lives in the country and she has decorated her
I love clothes and my fashion pinterest board is full of cute stuff and an assortment of outfits that I want to try to incorporate into my wardrobe in the future. But the truth is my everyday style is basically jeans and a t-shirt unless I have somewhere special to go. Today I thought it would be fun to take that basic outfit of jeans and a tee and elevate it a bit by adding layers.

I am way behind by Southern California standards but I finally got outside and prepared the soil in my backyard flower bed for spring planting. I had already cut back the roses but that's all I got to before our premature heat wave sent me running for shade.

I finally finished the entry way "closet" project and even though it took me two weeks instead of two days I really like how it turned out. If you read my initial post here you know that our small older home does not have a dedicated space to hang guest coats, purses, keys or cell phones. My task was to come up with a creative solution on virtually no budget or additonal space to add a true closet. Easy, right?

It feels like I have spent most of this week with a spray paint can in my hand and only changed out of my "work" clothes twice, once to go to bible study on Tuesday and yesterday to meet a couple of girlfriends for breakfast.

Have I ever mentioned that a train runs directly behind our little cottage. I am talking a full blown cargo carrying freight train complete with earsplitting horns and the clickety clack of train wheels rolling along the track.

You may have noticed a few changes to the look of things around here besides just the tweaking of the name. It's hard to believe that I have been blogging as Lemon Lane for almost six years and then at my first blog for a couple more before that. So much has happened in my life during those eight years and I love having these online journals as a record of all of it.

Yes, it's Monday but it's a holiday so that makes it a little easier to take, doesn't it? We had a really nice weekend even though our heatwave shows no sign of waning. I've decided to try and make the best of it and just pretend it's a mild summer day instead of a record breaking hot one in February.

Hello Friday. I don't know why but I am feeling every bit of this past weeks craziness and am looking forward to a couple of days with no place to go and no projects to complete. I have been on a roll around the house and in typical fashion have three things going at the same time.
Before I forget (and start talking about decorating) I'd better talk about fashion, after all it is fashion Friday.
I thought I'd share with you the outfit I wore for Superbowl Sunday since the way our weather is

We have been in the midst of a mini heatwave with several days in the mid to upper 80's. For those of you dealing with bitter cold I'm sure this sounds wonderful and it was for a day or two but now I just want to have a bit of winter before spring let alone summer gets here. Fortunately for me my husband loves to work outside in the heat and has spent the weekends preparing our suburben backyard for outdoor living.

I was hoping to have my entryway reveal all ready to share with you but it's not quite ready for it's ta-da moment. It has been one of those projects that didn't translate from my head to reality quite the way I wanted it to.

Good Monday morning to you. I feel a nice long "let's chat" post coming on very soon because I have one or two things on my heart that I'd like your opinion on, but for today I thought a nice decorating post would be better for this overly indulged, snack coma, post super bowl food girl.
In other words, my mind is moving too slowly for much else this morning.
So on to decorating...
Our home wasn't built with a true entry closet and there really isn't a space dedicated for hanging

I was doing a little research on pinterest ("little" on pinterest being a relative term) for my grandson's Valentines Day treats for his class this year. I thought with a weekend stretching ahead of us we could manage to make something inexpensive and cute and actually have it finished before the night of 13th.
There are countless ideas but I narrowed it down to these five to share with him after school.

I have to be honest when it comes to the super bowl for me it's all about the food, the commercials and half time. My hubby is not the biggest sports fan so some years the game will actually go largely unwatched except for a sneak peak or two as we switch channels.
This year I'm heading over to a friends toeat view the game and plan on taking an appetizer and

I must confess I have developed a little thing for The Pioneer Woman's dishes at Walmart. I have been happily collecting them one visit at a time and with each new dish line I declare a new favorite. And so it is with these adorable scalloped ramekins. (I only have three that I purchased individually but they have a set of six online for a much better deal.)
It's no secret I love color in my décor and they add just the perfect touch of it to these open shelves I installed a few years ago.
