Wow! I am blown away by your sweet comments on my farmhouse kitchen post. I read each and every comment and want to thank you for "getting" what I was trying to convey. It is the best reflection of my style so far.
Just to answer a few questions...
The barn red cabinets were here when we moved in. (I am working on getting a paint formula for you.) It was one of the things that sold me on the house. It's funny, you either love them or hate them. Fortunately for me, I love them. I don't think I would have had the courage to paint them that color on my own. When we first moved in a well meaning neighbor offered to paint those "awful cabinets" for me. That just goes to show how personal decorating tastes are. If I had succumbed to the opinions of others I would have painted over the most commented part of the kitchen.
The open shelves were made from stock lumber and brackets from one the the big box building stores. (I can't remember which one.) I toyed with the idea of removing a few doors from the existing cabinets but my hubby discouraged (nixed) the idea so the open shelving gave me the look I was after. It was a good compromise that turned into one of my favorite spots in the kitchen.
Red and yellow is my favorite happy color combination. Throw in a black checked curtain and I am in farmhouse heaven.
And finally, Cupcake wine is one of my current favorites, especially Red Velvet. I would love for you to pull up a chair and share a glass or two with me or I could brew up a fresh pot of coffee or tea and pour you a cup. I'm sure we could talk for hours.
Thank you again for the kitchen love...now it's on to the dining room.
Happy day before Friday!
xo, Patty
Patty,
ReplyDeleteIt is so true, that style is such a personalized thing. I have always loved that "worn" look, and wanted my home to be comfortable for all. I lean towards casual entertaining, and I love antiques and things from days of old. I will never forget when a neighbor of mine was in my house and said my house was so cutesy!! I thought....CUTESY?? I hate cutesy!!! When I went inside her home for the first time, it was all i could do to refrain from saying that her house reeked of animal stench!!! She had several dogs, cats, turtles, etc...IN the house, and it smelled like a zoo!!!
: )
I love Cupcake wine too.
Kris
Its so gorgeous Patty and the warmth I feel here is lovely. You've made this a "happy spot" and what better thing since the kitchen is really the "heart" of the home!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous!

74 comments wowza!! We all love that kitchen. It is farmhouse perfect and I think what that builder was after when he built those cute homes up there.
ReplyDeleteYou really do have an inviting kitchen. I'd share a glass of wine with you. Or coffee....either is fine! Can't wait to see your dining room now!
ReplyDeleteThanks for another peek at your fabulous kitchen! I am excited to see what you do with your dining room!
ReplyDeleteXO,
Jane
You're as cute as your kitchen. I can't wait to see the dining room!
ReplyDeletePatty: Is that Rose Chintz china I see? How beautiful. That is what I would want to share tea with you in! That must be in your dining room. (I cannot wait to see what you do in that room!) Where do you find Cupcake wine?
ReplyDeleteYou have such pretty glassware, so it would be a shame to have that hidden behind doors. I like the open shelf display. Looks like you and your husband made a wonderful compromise.
ReplyDeleteFunny how people see the same things in a different light, isn't it? My grandmother gave us a curio cabinet and after years of not really using it, I pained it white and distressed it. It's now my favorite piece of furniture in the house. My Dad took one look at it and told me it would look good when I painted it. He never quite understood why I kept telling him this WAS the after version of the cabinet. Oh well, not everyone gets the shabby look I guess!
Patty, Red Velvet is my favorite wine also!! Of course who wouldn't love it when you love red cabinets, LOL.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see your dining-room as it is the favorite room in the house for me. I love your kitchen and your blog is so cheery and sweet. I always love visiting. Hugs, Deb
ReplyDeleteOh Patty I love your kitchen, the red doors are just the best, I love them.

Another question, where did you get the drinking glasses on the open shelves. I have looked all over for some like those. I just love yours:)
ReplyDeleteOoohhhh you have Johnson Chintz! I am so jealous! I had a set that I lost in a flood and have found them too pricey to buy any more.
ReplyDeleteTaste is so personal. My early 50's home has some curved doorways. After I moved in, my brother said he could square them off. I love the curves! Your kitchen is fabulous!
ReplyDeletePatty, I have Rose Chintz too!! I don't have a full set but I LOVE what I do have and hope to someday add more pieces! I would love to share coffee or tea with you in the Rose Chintz!! :D
ReplyDeleteXOXO Carolyn
Patty,
ReplyDeleteHow well I remember when I joined a "Heart of the Home" Party hosted by Shelia @ Note Songs. I was moved to tears at all the comments about my "beautiful" kitchen. I had never seen the kitchen fellow bloggers described...those comments brought me to embrace my blessings with a grateful heart! I'm glad you kept the red cabinets!!!
Fondly,
Pat
I love how happy and colorful your kitchen is. You know what I like the best? It's unique and special!
ReplyDeletePatty, I've been out of the blogging world for a month and am finally trying to catch up with your blog and with my own. More photo's to come soon of my trip to the UK. I love your kitchen makeover. Red and Yellow are my favorite color combos too. The walls in my kitchen dining room are Yellow with Red and Black accents! I have never heard of cupcake wine. I will have to find a bottle and check it out soon. Hope you have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Sue
