I am excited to finally share my cottage farmhouse kitchen with you today.
I don't know if that is actually a decorating style or just a mixture of different styles that I love. Isn't it nice that we don't have to pigeonhole ourselves into one style label or another anymore?
It's okay to be a mish mash of what makes us happy and express our own unique style.
If I want to mix an antique floral tray with my daughters googly eye potholders from the 1990's...I can.
If I want to pair my barn red cabinets with modern quartz counter tops and mismatched butcher block islands...that's perfectly fine.
I have a list of things I would like to change when they break down and it is no longer smart to fix them, but for now my white 1990's stove is just fine next to my new stainless steel looking refrigerator.
My counter top white microwave works fine next to my black toaster oven and inexpensive Mr. Coffee. As long as my growing collection of aprons has a place to hang, I have beauty enough in that corner of the kitchen.
As I look around I see a collection of pretty containers given to me by sweet friends and the thought of replacing them with matching baskets is just not in my plans. It makes me smile when I see pretty note cards tucked into this fresh lemon box that was a gift from a new blogging friend.
Matching my fresh flowers to this pretty yellow buffalo check makes my heart sing and helps to make the kitchen one of my favorite rooms in our little cottage.
I know it's not much by todays kitchen standards but for my little family it's warm, laid back, come and sit a spell attitude is perfect.
Thanks for stopping by to take a peek at my farmhouse style cottage kitchen redo. I hope you feel inspired to let go of any decorating rules you are forcing yourself to live by and that you use and display only what makes you smile.
xo, Patty

Love your kitchen! it's a happy place filled with things you love!
ReplyDeleteA kitchen is only as good as the people that gather there. Yours looks like great people gather there. Have a great day! - Tonya
ReplyDeleteLove your barn red cabinets and all the little touches that make your kitchen a home!
ReplyDeleteYour kitchen is so beautiful and homey! Love the colors and the warm feel. Thanks for inviting us in.:D
ReplyDeleteDebbie
love the barn red cabinets...do you know what brand of paint it is and the color name? It's so hard to find the perfect barn red and you have done it. :)
ReplyDeleteI see a bottle of Cupcake wine on the island. That is the wine they were drinking in a movie we just saw "Hope Springs". Must be a good choice.
ReplyDeleteI love it and would love to sit in your kitchen and talk a while. It's warm, pretty, cozy - just perfect!
ReplyDeleteYour kitchen looks so warm and cozy. I love your use of reds and yellows. Especially like the open shelves with the glassware. That is a wonderful idea. Makes me want to "re-do" my kitchen the way you did on a budget! Thank you for the inspiration.

It is perfect, so lovely and inviting! It is a wonderful kitchen that invites special friends to visit for awhile and enjoy looking at the fabuloua treasures on display! You did an awesome job! Thanks for allowing us to visit with you in your new kitchen!!
ReplyDeleteI think it's wonderful, Patty. Cottage farmhouse is the perfect way to describe it and you are so right to forget about the 'rules' and decorate your home the way that makes you happy. You're kitchen is oozing with charm!!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad to finally get to see your kitchen. It looks so homey and inviting. I love everything. (I have my aprons hanging on a rack like yours in my laundry room.) It looks so bright and cheerful.
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful perfect space. I love todays decorating styles.. I am the same way, there are no more themes and matching colors ~ I just fill the space with things and patterns that I love.
ReplyDeleteOh I jut love it! It is a wonderful place! I know I would love to sit for a while with some coffee or tea. I love your vintage rolling pin with the knobs! I may have to still that idea. As a preschool teacher, I love the fact that you are displaying your daughter's googly eye pot holders!
ReplyDeleteLove it!!! I love your red cabinets and inviting style. I'm glad we don't have to fit a certain "decorating mode" anymore either...I never have!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Leslie
I love your kitchen. It's fun & happy, warm & inviting and most importantly, a "real" kitchen!!
ReplyDeleteI love your style!! Mix and match just the way I am!! I have difficulty picking what I like because I like it all!! Your kitchen is not only wonderful to look at it also looks very practical to cook in!
ReplyDeleteI spot the Cupcake wine - my favorite :-)
ReplyDeleteEverything looks really pretty!
I think your kitchen is charming! I really like your style. Some people, like you, just have that touch. Very nice and Yes, very inviting! Would love to see more of your home!
ReplyDeleteYou could plop that kitchen right smack in the middle of my house and I would be in Heaven! I love it!
ReplyDeletePatty, your kitchen is warm, inviting and cozy! I love it. I totally agree, and feel that your home should be a reflection of you, and what you love. My house is old and has much updating that needs to be done, but we love it. And that is what matters most. My style is MY style. And so is yours. As it should be!!!
ReplyDeleteHUGS,
Kris
Just love your kitchen. Such a perfect farmhouse style. A little of this and little of that and it all goes together. I am so not a fancy person, I so like homey and cozy. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteAnyone would find your inviting kitchen a wonderful place to be! I think kitchens which are "outside the model" are the best ones. Mine certainly has plenty of flaws, and it suits me fine.
ReplyDeletePatty,
ReplyDeleteYour kitchen is Terrific!
It is indeed, warm and welcoming. The red cabinets, the white shelves with pretty corbels, the pretty countertops, the classic white of the stove, the really great layout, it's all good!
Our kitchen is sporting an all white Mr. Coffee today - our old standby whenever the newest stainless steel coffeemaker breaks down!
I too simply love your gorgeous eclectic kitchen! I especially love the red cabinets ~ such a wonderful colour!
ReplyDeleteI love your kitchen - wish I had those red cabinets!!
ReplyDeleteI think it all looks great, and I would feel so at home in your Kitchen! Personal style is a must! Hugs, Diane
ReplyDeleteLove your kitchen and those red cabinets are my dream cabinets. Will be shoeing them to hubby tonight :0)
ReplyDeletePatty, it is splendid and I love how you embrace your own style. I also do not need new, bigger or better at this point. Give me function and a little pretty and I am good. hugs to you, Olive
ReplyDeleteI think your kitchen and home should reflect you and your likes. Following trends are not always healthy and can lead to disappointments.
ReplyDeleteYour kitchen is warm and inviting to you and your family; as it should be. Almost like comfort foods during winter time speaks the word, "Home."
(I've visited before and keep coming back. My first time to comment.)
Hi, I'm new to your blog but after a friend suggested I stop by, I am so glad. I love your warm, inviting kitchen-so many things to tease me with. I'm going to be following you-can't wait to get to know you more and see the rest of your cottage.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day.
Noreen
PATTY, I LOVE LOVE YOUR KITCHEN!! It is so very pretty and happy ...but yet very functional!! I love how you have some of your glassware out on the pretty shelf...my older home has limited cabinet space and this would be an awesome solution!! I love the colors and how you mix modern stainless steel and granite with vintage things! LOVE IT! :D. Do u know what I love most?? I absolutely love your lattice windows!!
ReplyDeleteXOXO. Carolyn
Boy, I do feel inspired. I just love it. Those red cabinets are great! I love the wooden work station. I'd like to go back now pin the rolling pin hook...so clever with the vintage glass knobs on it. So many great tings. I just love gingham and those valances are so cute!
ReplyDeleteI adore everything about your kitchen! I hate these that are all brand spanking new, but cold, ya know? Yours is cozy and full of your fun personality.
ReplyDeleteBrenda
Great cozy kitchen. Love the linens your used. And all those old glass I see on the open shelves.
ReplyDeleteCozy & beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYou have such a charming country kitchen. It looks so warm and inviting. I love the farmhouse style as well. I agree that we should feel free to mix up our decor. Everything works together if it makes you happy. Love the yellow letter holder on the wall and your red cabinets. I'm a new blogger and follower! Diane
ReplyDeleteHi! Have you heard of "the travelling Susan apron"? Check my blog!
ReplyDeleteI love your kitchen. I can't picture where your sink would be. Do you have a window view from the sink? Everything looks great, nice and very welcoming.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love your kitchen....so inviting...be careful....guests will never want to leave....especially with that mixer so readily available to mix up something yummy ;)
ReplyDeleteI think your kitchen is wonderful! I love homey, laid back and comfortable. A room filled with character and personality because of all the hodge podge and mix & match items. My girlfriend who is visiting from Lebanon just redid her bedroom and told me that when she did it, she though to herself, Tammy won't like this -- she had the furniture made, everything goes together and everything is beige. I don't like fussy, matchy-matchy rooms at all. I would say those potholders made by your daughter add that perfect touch of homeyness. Have a great week. Tammy
ReplyDeleteI love it! So much better than a "matchy" kitchen all put together with new stuff! I love the warmth and fun and golly I adore your red cabinets!
ReplyDeleteTotally inspiring!
ReplyDeleteCottage decorating should be a mish mash of this and that, I think.
I know I like all sorts of styles too.
I agree that it's all about your own personal taste.
I think it's gorgeous!! Love the red cabinets too!
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty kitchen! I just saw your post on Savvy Southern Style. I love the mix of elements...I think it adds so much character to the kitchen. It seems like a warm and inviting gathering spot!
ReplyDeleteWhat a warm, cheerful, cozy, happy kitchen. I love the barn red cabinets and all your meaningful touches. It just says "come on in". Love it!!
ReplyDeleteI love every inch of your kitchen, Patty, every detail that is YOU! It does lean toward farmhouse and I am sure that was your biggest influence, but it is really your own mix. I really enjoyed this post and the ones leading up to it!!
ReplyDeleteXO,
Jane
Patty, Your kitchen is so charming! It looks like a place one would find a warm and friendly welcome.
ReplyDeleteMary Alice

Patty, your kitchen is just darling I love the whole look. The pot lids hanging on the wall and the red cabinets are my favorite. I think it all looks like a kitchen decorated over time with all things you love. Great job!!
ReplyDeleteI love your sweet kitchen. Love all your pretties around too! I might even cook up a big ole batch of cookies in there.
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Love your beautiful kitchen.
ReplyDeleteIt's all wonderful and has tons of style without looking 'decorated'. I think my favourites are the yellow and black checked fabrics! A little wine is always nice, too! lol
ReplyDeleteOh- I just love it, Patty! it is a place where I would love to pull up a stool and sit and share a cup of coffee and a chat. What a wonderful, homey place you have made that into!!!! xo Diana
ReplyDeleteI love your kitchen. Very refreshing to see one that is full of personality and not matchy-matchy! Love how you used things you love. Makes me smile!
ReplyDeleteYour kitchen is lovely! It's so warm and inviting and it looks like a great place to actually cook and have a chat at the same time. I just LOVE red and yellow in the kitchen. You did a wonderful job!
ReplyDeleteAre you having more fum cooking now. I would. Enjoy and you did a great job. I'll be over for toast and tea soon.
ReplyDeleteLove your kitchen...it is so charming and cozy!!
ReplyDeleteCindy
Love it all...
ReplyDeleteI have the same decorating style, use what I love. I am your newest follower, visiting through Savvy Southern link party.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty! It looks like a warm, happy and cozy place to me. Being in a room that makes you feel warm, happy and cozy inside is more important than have the newest appliances or things that have no meaning surrounding you. I think you've done a wonderful job!
ReplyDeletePatty, thanks for stopping by! I have gotten used to it, although I seriously had second thoughts when I first started with the blue paint then again when I started with the top cabinets in the walnut. I LOVE it now. It feels so different and more personal. I tried really hard to have things not too matchy and take the builder-grade look away without ripping anything out. I wish I could get a solid surface or marble countertop, but definitely not in my budget. So I remind myself that my grandmother's country kitchen didn't have marble either!
ReplyDeletePatti, your kitchen is the cutest! I love it! I also love the yellow/red combo. So very cozy and inviting.
ReplyDeleteSO cute, I love it! And I love your decorating "rules." I've been that way all my life, even at my wedding, which my mom found baffling and probably somewhat stressful, lol! I wanted it to be the way I wanted it, not what people expected it to be. And that's true of my home as well. I do what makes me happy even if everyone else thinks I'm strange. : )
ReplyDeleteIt makes me want to get in there and cook something. Love it!
ReplyDeleteA true farmhouse look looks collected, like this, and doesn't have a specific formula. It utilizes and displays all of waht's necessary in a beautiful wholesome light! Love your cabinets!
ReplyDeleteHi Patty your kitchen is great but could you become one of my followers i only have 15 of them
ReplyDeleteElla
Your cottage farmhouse kitchen is perfect! It's warm and inviting and so practical with the open shelves and baskets. Love it!
ReplyDeleteBabs
Hi Patty,
ReplyDeleteIt's so true, we can forget about the "Rules", we can simply make our homes something that reflects us and make us happy.
Your kitchen is beautiful! I love the cheerful, vintage atmosphere.
Thank you for coming by my cottage, I'm so happy to see yours.
Hugs, Cindy
I'm sorry, let me catch my breath. You have a mishmash of styles, non-matching appliances, stuff you didn't buy "in a set", and you're not completely ashamed??
ReplyDeleteThank goodness for that. Your kitchen looks comfortable and very beautiful. Congratulations on bucking trends and doing what feels right!
Your kitchen is so cute with all its charming colors. Sorry I am late getting by this. Thanks for sharing at Wow.
ReplyDeleteI've enjoyed seeing your cheerful kitchen. Thank you for sharing it with us.
ReplyDeleteHi Patty,
ReplyDeleteI love your red cabinets...and the yellow and white checked curtains. The perfect kitchen, have you heard the saying, the kitchen is the heart of the home well and I believe it to be so. I am sure your family loves to gather in your kitchen.
Have a sweet day, Elizabeth
I totally love your kitchen as is! My previous kitchen was pretty much like yours, only not as pretty! When we remodeled it completely 2 years ago, hubby seems to want less stuff in the counters, I gave in to him as he just adores our new kitchen...so do I!.. but I miss it after looking at your warm, sweet and adorable one!
ReplyDeleteFABBY
Love your kitchen ... & most of all, love your whole thought process. Right up my ally! When we hold ourselves to these 'unwritten' rules & expectations of decorating, it almost makes us feel like we'll never get it quite right...& that just takes the fun right out of it! I'm your newest follower =)
ReplyDeleteIm in love with your kitchen,, I love everything about it.. especially that its so warm and inviting.
ReplyDeleteI missed this last week, so popped over from Kim's feature post. Wow, you had an incredible # of visitors. I agree, don't lock yourself into one look. ;-)
ReplyDeleteYour kitchen is charming.
Those red cabinets are the sweetest everything looks great!!
ReplyDeleteYou have achieved your farmhouse kitchen. You were smart to organize as you went along. I enjoyed looking over and over at each of your pictures, seeing something new each time. Your red cabinets are to die for. I remember seeing just a side of one awhile back and wondering if your whole kitchen had them. Everything is so cozy and welcoming. I would feel right at home there. Your family and friends must love it.
ReplyDeleteYou had me at the barn red cabinets! Yum!!! You've created a warm inviting space where I'd love to join you for a cup of coffee. :@
ReplyDeleteAnd if your blog friends love and adore your kitchen i guess that's ok too...:)because I do love your style! Can't wait to see more...:)
ReplyDeleteDid you find out what color the cabinets are painted? I live in an old farm house also and I have been seriously thinking about painting my bottom cabinets barn red. I love the color of your cabinets. Please tell!!
ReplyDeletecute kitchen! the yellow, buffalo checked fabric is so cheery : )
