wheelbarrow reveal

With summer just around the corner I am taking advantage of every minute I can in the garden.  It won't be long until the weather will be just too warm for much work to get down out there.  For now though, the morning hours are still pleasant enough to spend with my hands in the dirt and a smile on my face.



Remember my $3.78 bargain wheelbarrow? It jumped right to the top of my to do list.



What started out as a rusty, worn out shell has been transformed (with the help of a can of Rust-oleum Painter's Touch paint in Satin Aqua) into a charming cottage container garden.

I knew I wanted to preserve the rusted out handles and base so I used plastic grocery bags and masking tape to cover them up and sprayed away.

I placed it in the corner of a secluded space in our yard that I have designated for a future cutting and potager garden.  As you can see it still needs to be weeded, leveled and fitted with raised beds.  I have already planted a couple of grapevines, two blueberry bushes and a climbing rose to get it started.  The cool old rocker was a road side find that my hubby brought home for me.



I will gradually be filling the non-gardened space with pea gravel to cut down on weeds and because I love the look and the sound of it under foot.  I am on the lookout for a couple of tall used shudders or old worn door to place in the corner behind the wheelbarrow.

Realistically, this area is still in the dreaming stage.  For now it's enough to enjoy this charming little garden filled with zinnia, salvia, dianthus, gerbera daisies, allysum, hardy violet and what has become my favorite go to flower this year, pretty annual blue lobelia.

I wish I could show that man, who thought he got one over on me selling me this rusted old wheelbarrow, what a little imagination and a can of paint can do.
