monday morning coffee

6/4/12

It's hard to believe it's the first Monday in June already.  I brought my coffee outside this morning and am enjoying what we Californian's affectionately call "June gloom".  Those last few cool, overcast mornings before the heat of summer sets in.

We had wonderful weather all weekend and I spent most of my time outside soaking up the sun, did a little gardening, picked our first cherry tomatoes of the season, watched my husband wash the car and the grand kids play in the sandbox.  Just a perfectly lazy kind of weekend.

My daughter and I  managed to make it out to a local flea market early Sunday morning along with my grandson.  We told him he was a treasure hunter and he could find one special treasure to take home with him.  Luckily at four, his treasures were along the lines of rocks and marbles...he finally decided on an old baby spoon with a picture of a hot air balloon from a box full of one dollar items.

All I brought home were a few bags of faux pearls for some cuff bracelets I have planned for the shop.  Speaking of which, thank you all for the encouraging words.  They mean the world to me.

I have my to do list ready, so I better head out for my morning walk and get a start on this busy day.  I will be sanding and priming some garage sale pieces of furniture for our booth this afternoon so I should have pictures to share tomorrow.

I thought I would leave you (and me) with these wise words from Ann Voskamp's, one thousand gifts, to ponder this week.

"the secret of joy...Humbly let go. Let go of trying to do, let go of trying to control...let go of my own way, let go of my own fears.  Let God blow His wind, His trials, oxygen for joys fire. Leave the hand open and be. Be at peace.  Bend the knee and be small and let God give what God chooses to give because He only gives love and whisper surprised thanks.  This is the fuel of joy's flame.  Fullness of joy is discovered only in the emptying of will."

Now, let go and have a wonderful joy filled week.

xo, Patty

  1. Don't your just love weekends for relaxing and not have a busy schedule? I think everyone should have them once in awhile.

Your roses are stunning! Well, I better get to my repainting of a tea cart.

    Have a great week!

  2. Well, CA sounds like AR for now but the heat and humidity WILL come, here anyway. I'm sitting here having my coffee too. I've made the bed and put the clean clothes away and now it's a little break and then go get dressed. I have my TO_DO list in front of me also.
I love your quote and I must copy it...I have found that to be so true but it took me many, many years to discover it. I'm a fairly new follower and I want to get the book on Home you've been talking about. You sound like we have a lot in common! Have a great Monday!

  5. What a pretty arrangement for your morning coffee, Patty. My to-do list involves restoring some order to my home. I always feel more content when my surrounding are calm. Perhaps I should pick a rose or two to keep the peonies company. Yours are such a lovely colour.
-Karen (I'll be thinking about your quotation.)

  6. Good Morning Patty. It's been a while and wanted to catch up with you. Your roses are beautiful...pretty color. Sounds like you have opened an Etsy shop.
Good for you. I opened mine last fall, but haven't done much with it. Maybe you will inspire me to get busy.
As for inspiration...a very inspiring quote from Ann Voskamp's book. I have it on my Kindle and is my next read. Now I really want to start it.
Glad you had such a good weekend. It's already so hot here, but I am happy to be home near the grands.
Off to read some more and catch up a bit.

  7. I really like that quote! I will have to copy that one down. I was in Ca for May Gray....visiting from Ohio. I wasn't expecting the gray cool weather for my first time in Ca. It got better thankfully, by the end of the week in Laguna Beach. I loved California! Your roses look so pretty...mine are just now coming out. Have a great day!~Patti

  13. What beautiful, serene pictures of your lovely roses and tea cup and saucer! What a nice way to start the week. It's dreary today here in Ky, too! We've just moved in our new home, and I'm relaxing in my cozy new den-like living room. I'm tempted to turn on the fireplace, ha! I can't wait to post some pictures and start blogging again...
Oh, also I like your new header a lot. :D
    Blessings,
    Leslie

  17. I just moved a couple of weeks ago from California to the Carolinas. Hot and humid days have me missing the May gray and June gloom...
Your tea cup is beautiful, by the way. I just love it.
