I spent yesterday doing laundry and cleaning inside so that this weekend could be all about playing outside.
I cut a few of the rose bushes back before the green waste was taken earlier in the week but there are many more bushes to go and the fall leaves are right where they fell last November.
Every year I say that I'm going to keep up with the leaves from our mature California Ash trees but they have the nerve to fall during the busy holiday season and my best intentions are soon forgotten.
I could put it off a while longer but the weather is perfect right now and if I wait the rain or heat could arrive at any time and then I'll be sorry.
Besides I know the nurseries will soon be filling up with beautiful pansies and snap dragons and I won't be able to withstand the temptation to buy a few six packs (or twenty) and I will have no where prepared to plant them.
February and March are Southern California at it's finest. Have you started to think about your spring flowers, yet?
Beautiful pictures, that sunshine looks gorgeous xxx
ReplyDeletespring has got to be right around the corner. or at least i sure hope so. i'm ready for some nice temps & bright sunshine. (:
ReplyDeleteStill filling up the log basket every time we go out here!!! jennyx
ReplyDeleteWell, we are getting snow as we speak! Thinking of spring flowers will have to be put off for awhile around here. I enjoyed looking at yours thought!
ReplyDeleteflowers, oh yes! Here in the SC Lowcountry the daffodils are starting to bloom. The confederate roses are absolutely gorgeous..and the camillias are just about ready. The cottage home we purchased has absolutely NO landscaping so I have a clean slate. Ill keep you posted on that. Thank you for inspiring me.
ReplyDeleteGood morning. We are hoping for more winter weather. It is clear and windy this morning, and there's a chance of rain forecast for tomorrow. I'm crossing my fingers.
ReplyDeleteAs soon as Christmas is over I think of it. I will have to wait till march for some pansies here.
ReplyDeleteYou are fortunate to get to start in with Spring cleaning and planting outside. We are still waiting on Winter here in my part of Kansas. We have had a mild Winter so far but that doesn't mean that Winter won't show up! I am afraid that when it does, we will be paying for the nice weather.
ReplyDeleteYour pictures are great!!
We have had a mild winter in Oklahoma so I've been able to get out and rake and clean out flowerbeds. I'm so ready for spring, but will have to wait a couple of more months. Your pictures are lovely.
ReplyDeleteI think about them but it's months away for us here in the eastern part of Canada! In fact, it will be 4 months before we can plant in our gardens. But, I do enjoy yours and others who post of their gardens starting to bloom now. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI'm having to struggle NOT to think about spring flowers and veggies! Here in the Memphis area, we bounce around from nights in the 20's, cold rainy days, bright sunny cold days, then several days in the 60's, and then back to the 20's! On the the warmer days it is so tempting . . . .
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful pictures of the flowers!! All of them are so beautiful!! Great post :)
ReplyDeleteOh to have a little warm in the winter. Sounds lovely! Kit
ReplyDeleteI'm pretending I'm out in your garden on this cold, snowy, Ontario day! ~ Maureen
ReplyDeleteWhat a difference a few lines of latitude can make! There is some wet snow here today, or is it rain now...
ReplyDeleteEither way, today is my day to scurry about the house and make things nice as a friend arrives tomorrow to visit for a couple of days. Have fun playing outside.
I had really let things go in my little Secret Garden. Then a couple of weeks ago we moved our RV about 50 ft. back so the horses have eaten all I could not dig up and move, so I have a new little area to flower up.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you still have some pretty blooms. Will have to wait a little longer until the chance of frost is past and the fog season is over.
Even though we have been having a fairly mild winter, I haven't thought about getting ready for spring yet. Hubby did most of the flower bed cleaning for me. I'd love to have some pansies and violas...I love those dainty little flowers.
ReplyDeleteYou are so lucky to live there. I purchased a potted primrose yesterday. It is blooming, and my hope is to keep it alive until May when it can be planted.
ReplyDeleteYou have flowers! And green plants...and it looks like Spring! I had no idea, really I didn't. Living all my life in Michigan and freezing my hiney while you all enjoy flowers in January. I am trying very hard to control my envy. Lucky girl!
ReplyDeleteI miss California just at this time of year. I loved living there but I love living here, too. However, I'd love to be working in my garden and walking on the beach!

I'm so jealous. We can't plant until the first week of June here!
ReplyDeleteYour flowers are so...lovely. Enjoy!
Hello Patty- I just wanted to let you know that I awarded you on my blog. I hope you are having a wonderful day : )
ReplyDeleteWe are in the middle of summer here. Your leaves would make a great mulch, but I know what you mean, wanting to cram in lots of flowers for Spring. I am always sorry if I don't get the Spring flowers planted earlier enough.
ReplyDeleteYour garden looks nice though now.
xx jeanetteann
It will be quite some time before we can really think about spring flowers in the south. Usually the first sunny day makes you itching to buy flowers, but then the next day the frost arrives again. Right before spring is usually when we get snow too.
ReplyDeleteWhile we may want warmer weather, in reality, we've probably got another 3 to 4 months to dream and plan for our gardens.
You're lucky to have fun in your garden earlier!
Gorgeous garden pictures! Yes I have started to think about my garden too! I want to plant lots of flowers, as usual, and can't wait for the spring and the warmer weather to get out there and garden again! Loved seeing your fresh garden plants today, very uplifting!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your week.

Oh, such beautiful pictures as usual, and I love that first one especially! It is so good to see flowers again! :) I always enjoy seeing your garden and what you have growing! And you're right, it really won't be long and we'll have spring back again! I can't wait! :)
ReplyDeleteI hope you had a fun weekend!
Blessings,
Jenni
Mine is so bad at the moment, but the wet weather is worse so no garden activity for a while yet, can't wait to get out there :D
