first things first

1/18/12

I shared with you that my mom came by for a visit on Sunday.  She reads my blog (it's part of her job description) and she was as anxious as you are to see the progress in my studio.  Let me just say she was speechless and not in a good way.  Even though I warned her ahead of time, I don't think she was prepared for the piles of stuff she peeked in on.

My dear hubby worked extra hard moving all the large furniture up the stairs and placing it where I wanted it but the organization part is all up to me.  Right now most everything is at least piled where it will eventually go but it still needs to be sorted through.  In true optimistic fashion I found one small area worthy of a photo or two...my TV station/coffee bar.

This drop leaf table was a purchase from a few years ago that has been on my list of "needs painting" for the longest time.  I knew I wanted the base white but was not sure what color the top should be.  I am trying to repurpose and work within a very small budget so I headed to the Home Depot's rejected paint shelf.  I fell in love with this pink the moment I discovered the hidden quart.  For a mere $2.00 dollars for a good quality quart of paint I was able to transform this table, a little side table and a box storage unit plus I still have enough left in the can should the desire strike to paint anything else bubblegum pink.

The coffee lamp and canisters were a Christmas gift from my sister in law as were the little vintage coffee mugs and sign.  I know it's not much, but it's a start.  I tend to work better finishing one little project at a time, that seems to help keep me motivated to move on to the next area.  Otherwise I can become so overwhelmed with what needs to be done that I become discouraged.  Are you the same way?

My vintage sheet collection is folded and placed on a shelf so I will be back tomorrow to show you a little bit more.
Thanks for stopping by,

Patty

  2. I find that working on projects bit by bit makes it much easier and prevents burn-out. Your coffee bar is charming (don't you love oops paint?)! :)

  3. Patty,
I admire how you pace yourself with the organization process. I'm a "get 'er done" type...take a whole day and not stop 'til I'm finished! That little vignette set up for coffee is adorable and very intriquing as to what is in the works. See you soon!
    Fondly,

  4. A coffee bar in the studio sounds like a good place to start. I need to redo my room as it isn't working as is. One area at a time works for me.

  6. Love you new coffee bar. I did one last week and put pics of it on my new blog. I wanted to blend my love for crystal, longaberger, and country french into one "theme". Your pics inspire me to use what I love.

  7. Patty,
I think you are doing a great job. Sometimes the doing and playing with all the things you want to use is the fun part.
The coffee bar is so cute, just drink a lot of that and things will move right along.

  9. I can identify with feeling overwhelmed. I am working on redoing my office/sewing room and seem to be stuck. Life is interfering and I'm tired oof living with piles of papers, files, boxes sitting every where in my basement.

Maybe I need to follow your lead and get one corner finished so I can feel some sense of accomplishment!

  10. Am I the same way? Oh ya girl. You see, what your doing right now is EXACTLY what I've been doing these last few weeks. Last night I can't tell you how many times I sat in a chair and just stared. Stared at all the projects, all the piles, all the heaps of such and such all around me. I can't tell you how many times I got off that chair and started to simplify, organize and declutter the craft room. I can't tell you how many times I just wanted to break down and cry. Felt like I was on the show of Hoarders, the only thing is I'm not really getting rid of anything, just trying to get the room sorted out so I can begin working in my 'inspirational room'. Bit by bit. Corner by corner, shelf by shelf..and I keep reminding myself..'be gentle with yourself Angela'. Blessings.

  21. Oh yes, I know all to well about stacks and piles waiting to be organized and stored. I tend to refer to getting myself into trouble once again. It will all happen. Bonnie

  24. I love the shade of pink. Makes you wonder who decided they didn't want that color. The sign is perfect for your coffee station. You have a very good start.

  25. I am the same way about working on big projects....little steps at a time or I become overwhelmed. As soon as I get finished with these little sewing projects, I'm going to whittle away at my sewing/craft room.
Your little coffee bar area is adorable and how fortunate you were to find that can of paint!!
I look forward to seeing your progress...one little step at a time.

  26. I've been clearing out my house for 8 years now, keeping only what I love, and making room for new things that I love! Every task is unburdening and satisfying. Just remember what my best friend, CeCe taught me. "You can't eat an elephant in one bite!" Your blog has inspired me to start one of my own. Thank you!
