a splash of color

1/7/12

You know how much I love color.  Reds and yellows are the base of our main living area, so my choice of apple core in my new studio space kind of took me by surprise.

I went into the paint department thinking I wanted something in the robins egg blue family but I knew I wanted to bring in lots of color with  fabrics, quirky storage containers and painted furniture so I decided to paint the walls this neutral creamy white and I am so happy I did.

My goal is not to have any exposed plastic containers in the space so I've been gathering pretty boxes, baskets and cases to store all my supplies and vintage ephemera in.

I found this old makeup case at Goodwill for $5.99.  I love the bold red color and the funky old latch, it even still had the key tucked away inside.  I imagine the woman who owned it loves perfume because when you open it up the fragrance just fills the air.

I found some other great pieces that I'll share as the room comes together.  Some of them still need a little tweaking with paint and paper.

The carpet comes up today and then the fun begins...

Have a great weekend!  Patty

  3. Patty, I am a little behind and trying catch up. I, too, love color. My kitchen is red, green and yellow. I love creamy whites and butter yellows as back drops for color. I am thinking of changing room colors in and around my home. Hugs! Bonnie

  9. I think the pale neutral color is an excellent idea!! I find it interesting that you are storing your items in cases and such because, here in the near future, I am going to be revamping old train cases with beautiful interiors and exteriors. I think they make wonderful choices for storage and for displaying! ;)
I'm sure you are having so much fun putting it all together and I enjoy following your progression.

  11. Good luck with your new room, it will be so worth it, Patty! I like white walls in my studio too, because they reflect lots of light for working in, and you can add as much colour in other ways without it being affected by the walls. I love all your wonderful containers for your craft supplies! Looking forward to the next installment of your room makeover!

  14. Oh I can hardly wait!! I use my train case, that looks much like the one you got at the Goodwill, to hold my small knitting projects in. It is easy to take with me, and has pockets for needles and scissors and such.
I also like to use pretty boxes for storage. I have a friend in Florida who owns a cigar shop, and she sends me real wood cigar boxes. Those are fun to store small things inside, and they all have a unique shape. Have fun!!
