my safe haven

1/23/12

It's another rainy day here in Southern California and another reason to stay inside and cocoon myself away from the world outside.

There is no place I would rather be, when the stress of living crowds in, than in my little house.

Whether it be to pull the blankets over my head for just a while longer or spending a little extra quiet time in the morning or curling up with a cup of tea under a warm quilt, my home is definitely my safe haven and I don't ever want to take that gift for granted.

It makes caring for my home a joy.  I am lucky enough to have two spots just made for comfort, an old leather recliner in the living room with a perfect view of the mountains and now this cozy little corner in my craft studio.

Where is it that you retreat to in your home?

  1. In my lazy boy recliner in my living room....that is also my dining room and right off the kitchen. I can see the tops of all our Evergreen trees. Wish I could see mountains. First today we had rain. Then sunshine, now a weird yellow sky with a high wind warning. It's 56 degrees but they said snow showers tonight. Mother Nature needs some Prozac.

  2. In my comfortable PB chair in family room. That is where I can relax and read or do do a puzzle...

  3. I retreat to my corner of the sofa snuggled up in a blanket with Jazi in her corner snuggled in! I have my tea, remote, magazines, knitting and hand work all with in my reach! Yes, I could stay there all day but that darn job gets in the way!

  7. When the weather is bad my home is my comfort zone. I have two spaces also. My corner of the couch with the fireplace going and then in my studio. Sometimes just setting in my chair and doing nothing.

  8. I have two places. My bedroom and at the end of my sectional sofa on the chaise where I am usually curled up with a dog or three. :)

I can see out of the big picture window. I have a table to my left to hold my drink, my journal and books I am currently reading.

  9. My favorite place to relax and dream, pray, is my bath tub.
I love to feel the warmth of the water and it's the most quiet place in the house where I can truly be alone.

  14. That does look cozy!
That is a good question you asked. I don't know if I really have a favorite place. I guess it would be the recliner that is in the living room. But it is my husband's favorite place, too. Sometimes I like to just pull up the stepstool and sit at my island and look through cookbooks or make my lists. If the weather is nice, I like to go sit outside on the porch swing, but I hate for people to drive by and see me just sitting. Sometimes it is nice to just sit and think, ignoring the world around me!
Then there are too many times that my favorite relaxing place is right here in front of the computer!LOL!

  15. On the back porch, where if I close my left eye, I can block out the houses behind me and just see the trees and the creek in front of me and pretend that I live on sprawling acreage instead of a subdivision!

  19. Looks cozy Patty! I have a few favorite places. Right now I am sitting in the big leather reclining chair and a half. During the winter months, I move this chair right next to the fireplace and put a table on the hearth to hold a lamp to read by and a place to set my coffee. It is a favorite spot to blog and crochet, and just rest. And I have another comfy chair and ottoman in the living room by the bit picture window that is so nice and bright and cozy. And now I have added a favorite spot in my guest bedroom, where I put my new chaise lounge chair. SO comfy!!!
Wasn't today just wonderful with all of that rain? I can't wait for Greg to get home and start us up a big roaring fire!!

  21. In the Winter its at the edge of the couch looking outside at the big trees that frame the horizon of mountain range. My favorite time is in the early morning or at dusk. In the summer, it is definately hanging from the hammock under the trees and looking up and seeing the leaves dance...That's cozy to me...

  25. You have such a sweet home, I can see why you love spending time in it so! :) And oh! A craft room! {Feeling a pang of jealously over here, lol!} :)

My new favorite place to retreat to is in our newly finished bedroom {yea!} because it is finally the relaxing space I hoped it would be! For a long time, it was one of the last places I'd call a retreat! :)

I hope you are doing well, and that you have a good Tuesday!

    Blessings,
    Jenni

  27. Your little retreat is so cosy. I retreat in Summer when it isn't too hot(like at the moment) to the garden. In winter to my leather recliner in the sitting room with a cosy rug and cup of tea. When the weather is too hot I retreat to my sewing room and play. xx jeanetteann

  28. I retreat to my 'blogging chair' in the den. The den is very cozy and the dogs love it, so we all gather there.

  29. A few things lately make me want to cocoon myself away from the world outside.

Your little nooks look like a perfect place to re-fresh and re-group.

  31. Your spots look very comfy! I usually get the love seat and the ottoman. With that I have my slanket and a comfy down throw pillow behind my back. Love comfy spots!

  33. What cozy pictures you have of your home!!! I would just love to curl up there, too!
My spot is in my favorite, smushy chair-- under my cable knit throw--that's nestled between the fireplace and my little bookshelf table! It's a perfect place for my devotions, blogging or just snuggling up in on a chilly winter's day. Right now I'm here enjoying my coffee. :)
    Blessings,
    Leslie

  34. Just beautiful Patty! I love your cozy spots and there are few things better than a mountain view!

The thing I love about this house is that I have so many places to retreat but my slipcovered chair in my timeout corner and my studio are my favorites.

  35. It is hard to make my Italian home cosy as it is all hard surfaces and big rooms - however, in my heart I am in England - yes on a rainy day - snuggled up by the fire!
