I have had no problem finding gold, red and green but have had to hunt a little harder for these beautiful soft blue and orange ones. I have yet to stumble on the pinks but my hunt continues...
I am finding that the more I decorate with them, the more I want them to be the star of the show and have scaled back a lot of my other decorations.
Somehow they look best to me, in tarnished silver and mismatched glass bowls.
And pairing them with mercury glass (mine is new and not vintage) seems to be a natural mix. While I am not ready to abandon my traditional Christmas colors and decor, it's fun to change it up once in a while and see things in a new perspective, don't you agree?
I have finished with the family room (except the tree which will be selected this weekend) and am on to the dining room and kitchen today.
We are in for a wonderful few days of cloudy, rainy weather so once I'm finished, a nice hot cup of tea with the twinkling lights going is at the top of my list.
Thank you for sharing your "yes, I did," moments with me. It's always good to know that we're not alone in life's laughable moments. And yes, I was rushing out the door so I am sure that's why I didn't take that final peek in the mirror! Oh well, we have to be able to giggle at ourselves if we are going to stay sane in life, right?

ReplyDeleteI like the colour and shimmer of your "new" vintage ornaments. I have a hodgepodge of Christmas tree decorations, most of which were gifts from students or friends over the years. It's nice to think of those people as I hang each ornament on the tree. I'll have to get that tree soon!

Oh Patty, I love the old ornaments too and did actually add to my pink collection which I'm using lots of this year. It's more of the light blue I need, lol! I have been looking for the plastic Jewell Brite ornaments also.

I didn't realize those were rare colours to find so I wish you success in your search for them. I've been decorating with vintage balls for about 3 years now and I absolutely love them! You have a nice start to your collection and I love your mercury glass owl. So cute. ;)

ReplyDeletePatty ~ I love vintage ornaments. It is like stepping back when I look at them, I wonder who hung them on trees or put them in bowls before me. I guess I am just sentimental that way. I have found a few pink ones and our Sofia broke one the other day ~ no big deal. They are made to be used, loved and adored and if they break, no worries.

This year I decorated the tree with vintage ornaments that had been Mom's. Then I carried it a little further by decorating the sideboard with some of her decorations. I really like how it turned out.

I find most of those old (vintage) ornaments in thrift stores. Clean them with an alcohol wipe, paint and decorate them. This year I made Mr & Mrs. Snowman. Years ago my mother gave me some for my first tree. I bleached them out and filled them with colored water. Boy, were they heavy.
