indian summer

11/5/12

Am I the only one thinking it should be later than the clock says it is?  I fell asleep early last night by the hands of the clock but my body clock said it was time for bed.  Am I just getting old, or is all this fall back spring forward stuff harder to adjust to than it used to be?

And as if that wasn't enough, the temperature has changed once again, too.  The calendar says it's mid autumn but the thermostat hitting 90 degrees today says it's still summer.  (We won't even go into what my body thermostat says it is...that is another sad post all together.)

Is this what they call an Indian summer?  I plan on taking full advantage of this sunsine by working in the garden today.  My hubby was kind enough to bring home some bedding annuals for me to perk up my flower beds with...snapdragons, pansies, dianthus and lobelia are just calling my name.

These pictures from my trip to Old Town Spring, Texas totally have me inspired.  Can you spot the butterfly in each picture?  I think I'll start with the pots on the front porch and work my way around to the back patio.

Nothing like sunshine and pretty annuals to usher in November in California.  Better get to it, it will be dark sooner than you know it!

xo, Patty

  1. Patty ~ this time change is killing me. I woke up this morning at 5:00 a.m. (my body says that it's 6:00 a.m.) and could not fall back asleep. Send some of the warm air our way. Brrrr 32 degrees this morning ;-)

  2. Have fun planting. None of that will be going on here at this time of year, unless I put in some tulip bulbs within the next day or so. Autumn has definitely arrived and the sun is shining right now. It's been absent of late!

  3. This time change is doing a number on me too! It affects the animals too, they get usd to things happening at a certain time and can't understand the difference! So that proves that it is not just aqe!

  4. Patty - I agree completely. Last night it was dark by six o'clock here and it felt like nine or ten. It's hard to convince my body that the time change works. I'm not a morning person so I'd rather have that extra daylight at night rather than early in the morning. Oh, well.......

  5. The time change isn't agreeing with my body today. It is always so hard getting used to the change.
I couldn't do those temps for so long.
My body thermostate is broken, I am convinced.

  6. Well that was very nice of him to pick up those bedding plants! You just can't teach old dogs new tricks, I told myself when, at 8 p.m., my body said it had to go to sleep.

  7. I always seem to feel a little more tired in the winter months...maybe because I don't get as much fresh air and the heat in the house makes me a little sleepy. I had to keep reminding myself of the actual time last night, too. I hope your temps get a little lower soon. We have been in the 40's for weeks now. Definitely time for heavier blankets at night!

    XO,
    Jane

  8. i have the same problem every year the time change comes around. I'm not a fan of messing with the clock. I prefer the daylight more at night, rather than in the morning. It's been verrry cold here in Michigan. Our low tonight will be in the 20's, so please send some warm air and sunshine my way :)

  9. You're not the only one, I went to bed at 830 last night! I was so tired I could not stay awake. Tonight when I got out of work at 5:45 pm it was full on dark. Yuck!

This is the time change that agrees with my biological clock!
Your planters are looking gorgeous for November, dear friend!
