what resistance?

So how was your weekend?  Mine was H.O.T.  The plan was to stay inside behind my sewing machine and avoid the high temps all weekend but that didn't happen.  In fact, it seems like I was outside for the better part of both days.


My husband managed to convince me to go to the nursery with him to find a few landscaping bushes and I joined my daughter and son in law (along with sweet Emily) for a picnic in a very shady park.  I also made a trip to the booth to straighten up and add a few new items.


I did manage to sew a couple of more blocks for my granny square quilt but realized that I needed a yard of red and brown to finish it up.  So I headed out one more time in search of two yards of fabric and nothing else...


My self imposed fabric lock down went out the window when I walked into my local quilt store and happened upon this adorable fabric for a little boy quilt that I have been wanting to make for an old co-worker who had a baby boy in June.


The tractors, sailboats, horses, cars and all sorts of other boy things just cut right through my resistance.  Aren't the sherbet colors wonderful?  So very yummy.  I spent last night figuring out a pattern and got started cutting out the blocks.  I am hoping that once I make a dent in my cleaning and to do list I can spend some time behind my machine.


The weather is supposed to cool down a little bit this week, thank goodness.  What about you?  How are you holding up this summer?

    Hi Patty! Can't wait to see the finished quilt! I am sitting here freezing this morning! The weather here in Seattle has been so up and down. The warm sunny days are in the 70's, but this morning we are only 55 degrees! One day I'm in a tank top, then next a sweatshirt! Still...so much better than the 110 degree heat in Las Vegas!

    It was hot this weekend, wasn't it! I love that fabric!! So pretty. It is hard to resist when we see such pretty things in our quilt shops!!!
    I am really wanting to make a granny square quilt too!!!

    I love the fabrics, fabrics are irresistible, I cannot put a ban on buying it, I just get way too much joy from it. I bet you do too :)

    Looks like you had a good weekend. Hot here too, but we spent the weekend in Chicago where it was only 90 (going to be 105 here in Indiana today). Keep cool!

    Sometimes our best laid plans go by the way side...but then isn't that what "retirement" is suppose to be about??? Those fabrics for the boys quilt are right on target!!! Too cute, dear friend! Enjoy your week putting this terrific "gift of love" together for your friend!

    We went to church and stopped by a big box store where a huge bunch of nearly dead plants were on clearance. I could not resist. Butterfly bushes for two dollars and various lilies for one dollar. So in the heat I dug holes, planted and watered. I also got peach drift knock out roses half off. My plans changed rapidly but it was worth it and next spring I will be happy we bought them. Have a terrific Monday dear Patty.

    Patty, I can not take the heat like when I was young....it's hot flashes and humid weather...I am over cooked . Ready for Autumn to get a break hopefully. We had rain last week..so welcome. Yes, I like the surbert colors too. Some colors just say..Summer !! Smiles to you, Susie

    I'm with you, Patty! I was going to stay inside all weekend-instead I ended up working in the garage for two days in a row and ended up just about sick from the heat and humidity. UGH!!!!

    I am desperately trying to AVOID fabric stores at all costs-trying to whittle down some of my fabric PILE first- xo Diana

    That is such cute fabric. I'm also admiring your pictures since my camera is broken. Sigh. It's very hot here. Also, I'm home alone with a plumber who has been here since 9:30. I'm afraid of the bill. Just sharing my life with you.....

    Hi Patty..We had a nice weekend..No AC..windows open..Mollie and I spent a lot of it on the front porch with the computer, telephone, Kindle and munchies once in awhile...but it's back today..Humidity !! I'm tired of being sweaty all the time...

    Hello Patty....Holding up pretty good here in Western Massachusetts. Have hardly used the air-conditioner, depending, for the most part, on fans. It's been pretty effective and more cost-efficient. Good luck on the quilt! Susan
