looking forward

9/28/11

With October just a few days away, I've started to look ahead to the holidays.  Last year I tried to accomplish more than time would allow and ended a bit frazzled, so this year I've made up my mind that what I plan to get done needs to be finished by the first week of December.

Whatever sewing projects, gift making, decorating and major cleaning that's not done by that time will just have to wait until after the holidays.

Time with precious little ones in the month of December will be my priority.

Baking, crafting, caroling and Santa visits will be the order of the day...

Silly faces, wish lists, It's a Wonderful Life, Miracle on 34th Street, The Christmas Story, The Grinch and Frosty the Snow Man with a new generation, are on my agenda...

Quieting my spirit, time for reflection, remembering the true meaning of Christmas are at the top of my list...

Hot cocoa, old movies, time under a quilt with my hubby are what's important.

What memories do you plan on making?  Did I miss any must see family Christmas movies?  Won't you share?

Patty

btw...this adorable little fall munchkin is my granddaughter Emily.  Trying to get her to pose in the new dress grandma made her was quiet the challenge but so much fun!

  1. Emily is beautiful, Patty. The dress is darling...how talented you are.

Yes....this year I have already decided to refocus what I am doing. I always do too much and wear myself into the ground. I want more focus to be on my husband, our friends....and a gentle hand with the house. I don't need four trees decorated and I don't need something related to the holiday in every room.

I ask for God's gentle help because I need it. Always.

  2. Beautiful grandchild and the photos are wonderful. Your holiday plans sound wonderful. Last year I even skipped setting up the Christmas tree. I don't want to do that again this year though. Take care

  3. Sounds like all your priorities are in place...and what a precious grand daughter, who has a very talented grandmother...the fruit of your labor is just wonderful, both the dress and the next generation

  4. Your grandaughter is adorable! I always watch the movie "The Bishop's Wife" with Loretta Young and Cary Grant. Be sure to check it out. It is a classic and I'll bet you add it to your "watch every year" list. I always have a better time at the holidays when I get everything (shopping) done before Thanksgiving. Then December is for baking cookies, watching old movies, going to town holiday festivals and parades, dinners out, decorating the house, etc. I must admit my decorating is minimal. And I have resorted to a tabletop tree as my home is small, and between the dogs and my 18 month old grandson, they would tear it down anyway. So it is out of reach but they can look.

  5. Emily is so pretty! I love her dress and how it matches perfectly for the fall setting.

We have traditions like opening presents on Christmas day, watching Christmas Story and making homemade Buttermilk pancakes for breakfast.

Wow, it will be here before you know it.

  7. Your granddaughter is just precious!
I'm not even thinking about Christmas just yet....enjoying the cooler temps, fall colors, pumpkin patches, and thinking about adding Halloween decorations to my fall decor.

  10. I love the dress that she has on. She's so cute.
I have just started to think about the holidays. With my family half in Ohio and half in Colorado time is usually spend both places.
Not even sure we will get to COlorado this year. Every year I try to simplify. I only use small trees now and I put them in my antique wagon. That took alot of stress off of me.

As far as gifts I hope to give all the grands one nice gift instead of so many. They get so much.
Not sure about the adult kids.
Keep it simple is my goal.

  12. Patty,
I always have to watch Holiday Inn, Christmas Vacation, Merry Christmas, Charlie Brown, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. Did you know I used to write Jimmy Stewart on his birthday and he was always send back a thank you card. So special! Your Granddaughter is so pretty :)

  13. What a gracious, needed, and smart take on the Christmas holidays. You sure do have a precious little one! Adorable pictures. Isn't it interesting how we come full circle sometimes in life, realizing what is really "important" and what is not! Great post!

  15. Precious! Emily is adorable. Love the dress. I've made two with this pattern for my granddaughter, Morgan.

I haven't thought too much about Christmas yet. I've cut down the last couple years by asking my family what their favorite part of our Christmas season is and then dropping the rest.

    Enjoyed my visit.
    Blessings,
