I don't know if it's the amount of life that we feel we need to live on those two short days tucked
within our "work" week but sometimes my weekends can feel like more work then the real thing. I know the month of February was a short one but if the first week is any indication the month of March is the one moving at break neck speed. All that busyness must make the time fly by all the faster.
Before you know it the kids will be out of school and it will be time to start thinking about our summer bucket list in which we will fill those days with as many activities as we can lest the neighbors don't think we are busy enough or providing our kids with the right summer memories before heading back to school in the fall.
I think I'm going to go all rebel one of these days soon and just decide to do nothing. Maybe even keep the little ones home and make them figure out how to entertain themselves without leaving the house for a play date, amusement park, day at the beach, supervised bike ride or hike in the mountains and not feel one bit guilty about it. I'll ignore all those smiling faces of my friends doing all those seemingly fun family things on facebook. Heck, I might even forgo facebook for the weekend all together.
I might just steal a whole two days to myself tucked away in my craft studio and make the kids play with those toys they begged us for last Christmas. What do you think? Want to start a stay at home and do nothing revolution? Who's with me?
xo, Patty
I agree with you totally, Patty. Time is flying by way too fast. It's raining here today and perfect for one of those kind of days you mentioned. We'll see how that goes. lol

ReplyDeleteI need you to do my subscribe box. Yours are so cute. Love them!
ReplyDeleteI am in too.
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking these same thoughts lately. I am naturally such a "doer". It's hard for me to sit still and do nothing. In fact, I've been sitting here on the sofa, drinking coffee and reading blogs and I'm itching to get up and GO. I have to remind myself that sometimes it's ok to slow down and savor things for a few minutes.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of kids and getting out of school, my son is graduating college in May and will be moving back home in August. I am so not ready for this! I don't know if there's truly any way to prepare for it. He's been away for 3 years (not like he's far...only an hour + 20 min drive), so it will be a big adjustment for all of us to have him back at home.
I am so with you on this one Patty! I just finished facilitating a women's conference at church this past weekend and, while it was totally worth the effort, I am plumb tuckered out! I sometimes feel that I try to cram way too much into the weekends. The silly thing is, I don't even work outside the home, so there is no real reason to try to get everything done on the weekend. I tend to feel guilty just doing "nothing", but I think we all need that time to let our brains and bodies rest and recharge.
ReplyDeleteI think we should together, all stop glorifying "busy". Some people wear it like a badge. People used to try to keep up w/ the Jones's, and now they strive to keep up to the Jones's Busy-ness. There seems to be a stigma if people admit to having spent a quiet weekend at home. How busy do we, and our kids and grandkids need to be before we are winners in the busy race?? And at what cost?
ReplyDeleteAmen to this!

ReplyDeletePatty, I caught myself yesterday with this familiar feeling of rushing. I had to stop and ask myself why I always feel like I'm in a hurry or that life is passing me by and I only have a certain amount of time. No one is holding me to a certain schedule, but for some reason, resting and just enjoying my home, always feels like I'm guilty of slacking (even though I rarely stop "doing").
ReplyDeleteMaybe we should start a challenge where we all agree to sit for 30 minutes each afternoon and read and relax.
I always love seeing your colorful posts. I thought you were an empty-nester. Am I thinking of someone else? I only see Andrew some weekends. Otherwise I'm working on projects or just working. I don't like plans. I like making it up as I go along.

ReplyDeleteI never understood the families that ran around all the time. When I was growing up, we took one big summer vacation and one big winter vacation. Besides that, my brother and I had to entertain ourselves and so did my kids. We all seemed to live LOL
ReplyDeleteI say go for it, my friend.

I am loving your craft studio! Very pretty banners, especially the polka dot one :) hugs, Poppy
ReplyDeleteWe should always stop and smell the roses. Your design is looking good. Have you thought about trucating your posts, so more posts show up and readers can pick and choose. I think if you removed the grey background on the tabs, it might look better. Just a suggestion....
ReplyDeleteI'm in and I agree wholeheartedly! Now that I'm "retired" (from working outside the home), I do so enjoy having days when I don't HAVE to go anywhere or run any errands or try to do 10 things on the way home from work! I cherish the days that just slowly slip by one into another, while I'm at home puttering, reading, watching a TV show or playing in my craft room. Growing up, us 4 girls pretty much entertained ourselves. We walked everywhere, rode our bikes, spent time at a friend's house playing, or roamed the fields on our own. We all had maybe one extra school activity, but even then, I didn't like having things planned for me or having to go to a lesson or recital.. I'm still that way today. It's too bad that most people feel they have to be busy to enjoy life and the kids of today don't know how to sit still anymore and just live quietly in the moment!
