brightening things up

I'm trying to brighten things up in the dining room.  I am thinking about painting a few of the larger furniture pieces of oak a different color to help lighten things up in there.  Now that I have the experience (and street cred) from painting the kitchen cabinets, my hubby has reluctantly given me the go ahead to paint some furniture.

I know I'll be painting the hutch the same white as the cabinets.  It is really large and I don't think I want to commit to that much of any one color.  I also have a 1990's oak wine cabinet and a thrift store half circle table that I want to paint as well.  They are small enough that a nice pop of color on them will be a fun addition to the room.  I have narrowed it down to periwinkle blue and sunshine yellow although I'm not sure what piece I'll be painting which color just yet.

As much as I want to simplify my house with whites it seems I am always drawn back to primary colors.  I love the sense of fun and casual feel bright colors add to a room.  I think the calming affect will have to come with less clutter and more open wall space.

I can't wait to get started.  I never thought I'd hear myself say this but I think I hear my paint brush calling me.

  1. Patty, I just adore the colors in your house. You are just great at combining them and at making pretty little vignettes. You do have street cred!!

  2. Everything is so cute! I love the colors, the strawberry pitcher and the enamel container of rolling pins. I think your furniture painting ideas sound perfect! What is it with men and painting furniture? I have a honking bookshelf t.v. armoire that we got for free. It's really a very nice piece, but it's that dated dark oak and I am dying to paint it. When this t.v. dies we will replace it with a big screen mounted on the wall, so the t.v. armoire's days are numbered anyway. Hubby just insists I not paint the silly thing! :>( Ah well, as I said, it's days are numbered anyway. I'll have to enjoy yur painted furniture instead:>)

Less clutter, (seems like) more space! I went back and looked at your kitchen renovation....it looks sooo darling! Very nice, a great look!! I think you did a fabulous job with it~~~thanks for stopping by....I am a follower of yours but I seem to miss your posts. I will be on the lookout more! Blessings~~~Roxie
