pretty and practical

I love the look of these old glasses.  I'm told they were freebies in the fifties, used to hold peanut butter.  Wasn't life so much prettier then?  It just seems like much more time was put into making the everyday beautiful.  I think that's why vintage aprons and old flour sacks appeal to me, too.



These cute vintage looking cherry and strawberry glasses are from Pier 1 and I love them but there is something about those old peanut butter jars that bring out the romantic in me...longing for a simpler time, I guess.



When dishes are as pretty as these it's a joy to fill the sink with warm sudsy water and wash them by hand.  Don't you agree?

I'm off to a craft show with my SIL and a sweet blogging friend.  Who knows what treasures I'll find!

    yes I remember the peanut butter jar glasses. We had the Flinstones,from the 1960's...not pretty but my brother and I loved them!

    I love this post, you took the words right out of my mouth. I feel the same way, always telling Hubby "lets live like "Little House on the Prairie". Simpler is much better and less stressful. I love the glasses, and the story of the peanut butter jars. You put a smile on my face, and made for a happy day:) Great post!!

    I agree the old vintage things are made so well. Doubt much of what is made now will be around in 40 or 50 years. Love those cherry glasses. Cute cute!! Can't wait for today. I think it is going to be cold down there.

    Those glasses are so pretty. What I find interesting about vintage glasses is their size. Everything we do now is so much bigger.

    I agree, there was more pride in craftmanship and quality years ago. I have some of those type of glasses myself and I love them. I'm such a sucker for anything vintage, especially from the 50's, since that is the era I grew up in. I remember my mom used to save the sour cream glasses, they were short wide tumblers. And as kids we had the cartoon jelly jars.

    I love those old glasses! I wish companies today would get a clue and emulate that same practice. Think of how much trash could be avoided if containers were recyclable into something you could use!

    When I left you a message this morning and said have a great time at the craft fair, who would had thought, that at the very moment I walked up to Maryjane's booth, you three would be there at the same time, and we would meet!     Lovely little glasses...we didn't have peanut butter here in those days (I know!) so had no jars to collect when I was a child, but I do remember little drinking glasses decorated with flowers, and adorable hostess aprons made from pretty fabrics! Simple and pretty are a perfect combination for me.

    I remember those jelly glasses at my Aunts house. Fran would make fresh squeezed orange juice for us
    which was something we didn't get at home. Lovely memories.
