fresh flowers - ten buck Tuesday

1/26/16

I have always loved flowers both outside in the garden and inside on the kitchen table.  There's just something special about having a fresh bouquet in the house.  Don't you agree?

Here in Southern California there aren't many months that I can't go outside and snip something green or flowering and I love that.  But sometimes I want a little bit more than my yard has to offer.

And I know those of you knee deep (or house deep) in snow can go months without seeing any color for clipping.

If money were no object I would love to have fresh bouquets delivered weekly with flowers from all over the world.  But that's just not my reality so I do the next best thing, I head to the grocery store or in this weeks case Trader Joe's.

For less than ten dollars I was able to pick up a bundle of roses and a one of mums to use around the house.  (I will sometimes go with the premixed bouquet for around $5.99, but I wasn't really loving the color selection on hand and I find you get more flowers when you buy two separate bouquets and make your arrangements.)

Once I got them home I needed to decide what to do with them.  I knew I wanted a pitcher full of flowers to add to my dining room centerpiece and also a bouquet on the counter for my Valentines day display, so I grabbed those vases first.  Then I decided a couple of small arrangements, one on the mantel and one in the bathroom, would be nice as well.

I started with the largest vessels making sure I used the roses where I would enjoy them most.

Then I snipped the remaining daisies and made two more little bouquets.

I know it can seem kind of extravagant to buy cut flowers but for me that ten dollars was actually a wise investment in helping to make our house a cozy home and you can't put a price on that.

  1. Not too extravagant in my book! Flowers are required. :)

  2. I agree with Stacey ... flowers are an essential in life. I live just outside of Ottawa Ontario Canada. So no backyard garden flowers for me for a few months Our store has 50% off flowers every Monday. I can pick up carnations or lilies or roses or mixed bouquet for my week. Sometimes the floral worker adds a bit of greenery gratis for me.

  8. Patty,
The hue of those roses is absolutely breathtakingly beautiful, dear friend!!!
    Love the daisies, too!!!
Unfortunately, for me, all indoor flowers must be faux. . .allergies!!!
    Fondly,
