fashion - jeans and more jeans

1/15/16

I'm glad you're enjoying these fashion posts because I am having so much fun doing them and knowing I'm going to share what I wear really helps me get out of my pjs lounge wear a lot more often.

I feel like I am always styling blue jeans but at this stage of my life they are my main staple bottoms.  I have a few pairs I switch out depending on what type of top I'm wearing.  I also have black, grey, tan, plum and white jeans that I will try to style a bit more often.

With all that said, here is my latest version of fashion over 50...jeans and more jeans.

These are my favorite "skinny" style jeans. They are from Loft and called curvy skinny (I know, an
oxymoron for sure).  They fit just snug enough and keep their shape for a couple of wearings.  The striped sweater is also from Loft and has a high low hemline which means it hangs lower in the back covering my behind.  I love this trend in tops and look for it when I'm buying something new. (I know budget is an issue and Loft is mid range with pricing and a bit of a splurge, but the quality is good and they have 40 percent off sales quite often so wait for those.)  The slouchy suede boots were a find on Zulilly at less than $20.00.  They are flat and loose around the calf so they're super comfy.

I love how put together I felt in this outfit.  I know the boots have a heel and are not practical for all day wear but for a special lunch or date night they are great.  They are Easy Spirit from Macy's and are actually quite comfy.  They were a gift from my mom last Christmas.  The gently distressed jeans are Liz Claiborne "City Fit" from JCPenneys.  I think distressed jeans look cute on the twenty something set and was hesitant to try them at my age but these are done very tastefully with just enough distressing to be on trend but not over the top.  They run a bit big and do sag a little after the first wearing but I just put them in the dryer with a damp washcloth before I wear them again if they aren't dirty.

The dainty sweater is from Nordstrom.  It cost me less than $30.00 on sale, the quality is terrific, it's super soft and definitely worth the splurge.  The pretty scarf is from TJMaxx and was a Christmas gift.  I love the pretty blend of blues, don't you?

Last outfit for this week.  Same Liz Clayborn jeans as the last outfit, the rose ruffled blouse is from Loft, I found the cute fringe boots at Burlington Coat Factory online.  They were only $19.99 and a fun way to add some trendy fringe to my wardrobe. It was a little cooler than I expected so I added a military vest before heading out the door.

Most jeans today have a bit of stretch to them and are super comfortable so that makes them practical for my everyday life.  I have not joined the leggings brigade yet and don't own a single pair.  It's not that I don't think they can look cute with the right top but it's just not something I'm comfortable with...yet.  I've learned never to say never with most things at my age.  And I would really like to style a few dresses for you this spring and maybe even find some shorts that are still flattering to my 50 something year old legs.

I have plenty of clothes from discount big box stores and thrift store finds that I love as well so I will try to include those in future fashion posts.  Let me know if you have any questions or styles that you'd like to see.

Have a great weekend!

xo, Patty

  1. I am so happy you are doing these Patty. I will admit, I have never been very fashion minded. Jeans and a tee are what I have spent my life in, and what I still love. Accessories mystify me and truthfully, as pretty as they are I strip them off the moment I get home. Having said that, the older I get, the more effort I realize I need to make. Just a fact of life I guess! I love the second outfit because I have a similar sweater and really love how it looks with the other items you have put it with, so it's something I can actually do right now. I love the other looks too. They give me good ideas on pulling what I have together. Thanks for the fashion posts, some of us still need a little help and advice!

  2. Patty, I love your cute outfits. Those low heeled boots are for me girl....I have a black pair and I actually wore them at Christmas. I can not longer wear heels. With arthritis in my ankles...I find that it limits my clothing style so much. Hey us old ladies like cute shoes too..I often wonder why the shoe makers are interested in pleasing us. I am not talking about gluing shiny things to tennis shoes either. LOL. Bless you, Hope your hubby takes you out, you are looking good. xoxo,Susie

  5. So cute! My favorite is the one with the pink shirt but I love your distressed jeans! I bought some skinny jeans to wear with my converse but shirts!!!! I'm havin a heck of a time finding any that are long enough but not oversized. My top half doesn't need any added girth lol.
