wire baskets in the kitchen

7/24/14

It feels so good to be entering the home stretch of my kitchen revamp.  The major work is done so now it's time for the fun stuff, it's all about editing and accessorizing.

Going into this I had a pretty good idea of the feeling I was after in my kitchen and even a general idea of what I was going to place on each section of the counter.  But after a couple of days of pushing things around most of my original plans have gone out the window.  In fact, there are a couple things I was looking forward to using that won't be displayed at all.

One thing that is working for me is using wire baskets and trays to corral things on counters and in cabinets.  There are so many great options to choose from at relatively inexpensive prices.  I found this one at my local Home Goods for under $10.00.  It's big enough to hold my fruit bowl, a few old soup cans filled with garden flowers and a container of fresh mint (for Mojitos, of course!)

Sometimes decorating a kitchen seems like such a silly thing in lieu of the seriousness of life.  I have often wondered what purpose all this prettifying serves when there are so many people in need all around me.  But then I remember that one of the most important things I can do for those who fall under my care is to provide them with a calm, lovely place to hunker down in.  A place to escape the harsh realities of the world, a place of safety and security.  Not a perfect place (we have our share of strife and differing opinions to be sure) but a place where being loved is never questioned and shortcomings are forgiven...a place called home.

xo, Patty

  3. Love your basket! I have been looking online and have not found any that are reasonably priced, so I guess I will make a trip to Asheville and Home Goods! Can't wait to see your kitchen:-)

  4. I love that basket. I like the idea of organizing on counter tops. We don't all have places to hide every thing away, so this is nice. xoxo,Susie

  5. You bring beauty for those who enter your home, that's for sure. But, this beauty that you cultivate goes with you when you leave that little cottage Patty. You spread a calm peace

  7. I love that wire basket! And I am looking forward to seeing everything else:>) I agree, sometimes decorating seems so frivolous when we think of the problems the world has, but being able to appreciate beauty in any form is a gift that we all need. It brings joy and happiness. That is not to say that it should be our highest priority, but there is room for beauty in our homes and in our lives, and it helps drive away the bad things that assault us from so many directions.

  8. LOVE the basket and the "corralling" idea! I have to admit, my kitchen is probably the room that I "fuss over" the most. It isn't perfect, and we don't have any "big-ticket" anything in here, but... it is where I live, and I love to make it pretty with even just the simplest of things -- like your beautiful cans of daisies!

  9. I like your white kitchen cabinets with white door will make the kitchen looked so amazing. Wood material usually will be used for the custom kitchen. If you want to make the modern kitchen, the glossy door will be suitable.

  10. I recently started corralling things with trays and wire baskets and I love it. It makes it so easy to clean and looks good too. Love what you are doing in the redo.

  12. Patty,
I love what I'm catching glimpses of in your newly painted kitchen.
My Aunt painted a kitchen picture for me many years ago,
"No matter where I serve my guest, It seems they like my kitchen best."
The kitchen is the heart and the hub of one's home.
Peacefu land function, filled with meals made with love
sounds like the perfectcombination of needs fulfilled!!!
    Have a wonderful weekend!
    Fondly,
    Pat
