sometimes you just need to bake...

7/29/14

This has been the hottest, driest spring and summer I can recall in a very long time and honestly, I am over it. Southern California is under drought water restrictions so even if I wanted to be out in the garden, I couldn't water enough to keep it green.  With August and September still yet to come (traditionally our hottest months of the year) this is truly the summer that never ends.

So what's a girl to do?  Turn the AC up and bake chocolate chip cookies, of course.

That's just what I did yesterday and if I closed my eyes and stood in front of one of the three fans we have going 24/7, it almost felt fallish.

But then I stepped outside to get something from my car and wham, smack dab in the middle of summer again!  You'd think this native SoCal girl would be used to this but summer is not what it used to be. We used to have dry, hot summers now it seems the humidity has taken over and it really is a different kind of heat.

Maybe, I'll turn on the sprinkler, fill the kiddie pool with ice, close my eyes and pretend we're in a snow flurry.  Want to join me?

xo, Patty

  1. In Phoenix here. Same awful weather. High of 111 and the humidity is killing me this year. I would bake cookies too if I had a kitchen but we are under a home renovation and I can't find my oven!!!

  2. Not really Patty! We get freezing winters here in Ottawa, and even when it gets really hot & humid in the summer, I never wish for winter!! I think it's a lot milder for your winters!!

  3. Yes!!
    Start filling that kiddie pool!!!

I like your attitude! Staying positive.

I agree with you, it's been a loooong hottttt, summer! Here in Utah, as well, and the wildfires have made the skies murky.
I'm making fruit leather, and drying pears in the dehydrator. With the A/C cranked up as well***giggle**.

Hang in there.... and enjoy your homemade cookies.

  6. You are so right about the heat...if there's humidity with it...that just kills my energy level. Right now in our area central Indiana, it's in the 70's for the rest of this week. That is sweet...I turned the AC off. But you know cookies have no season, they are welcome any time of the year. LOL> Blessings, xoxo,Susie

  7. I'll pass on the snow flurries, but I'll take a cookie! ;-) Here in northern IL, we have brutal winters. It's my worst season. I love summer, but it can get very hot and humid here. We've been very lucky so far this summer - it's been a very mild one. In fact, it's only been in the 70's this past week and looks like the same all through next week, too. Sorry the heat's been horrible for you.

  8. Do you want me to forward some wintry photos from northern MN? hehe We've had a cooler than average summer so far and that's just the way I like it. When the heat hits us, it's so hot and humid that everything feels wet. yuck

Your cookies look delish and I'm looking forward to your kitchen reveal.

  10. This Sacramento girl is ready to join you in that ice pool! It does seem like the humidity is up this year--and I'm tired of it. That and wildfires. I'm always so relieved when Fall arrives!
