celebrating on the lake

7/9/13

Finding myself alone on the fourth of July, (hubby worked and the kids decided they had their own lives,) I decided to crash my brothers party and I invited myself onto the pontoon boat he rented on Big Bear Lake to watch the firework show.

What a perfect way to spend the fourth.  The mountain weather was such a nice relief from our sweltering heat, the views were gorgeous, the company was good and the fireworks were some of the best I've ever seen.

(me, my brother, mom and little sister)
(my handsome brother and my beautiful sister in law)
(my gorgeous mom and me)

The day was such a blast that I have started a little savings jar so that I can take my own little brood next year.  My mind is already swirling with the details.  I love when a new tradition forms!

I hope your celebration was wonderful, too!

xo, Patty

  3. Oh this is spooky. After going up to Big Bear the week before the fourth with my bro, I told Dean we should rent a cabin and head up there for the fourth next year so all the kids could come up even if working as it is close enough for a day drive. Kris was there too. I love the pic of your mom and you. How is your brother doing?

  6. How absolutely wonderful for your family and you to get together. Pontoon boats are so great for a big group, definite advantage to sport boat. You all look so happy and having a good time, great place to have family get together. Great your Mom wasn't afraid on the boat. We took my Mom on our sport type boat and she about had a fit, scared her half to death.
I'd forgotten all about Big Bear. We took our boat up there a few times in the years before we moved away from San Diego area. I miss doing all that so much. We used to go to Havasu in Sept. for hubs vacations. Was hot enuf in Sept. can you imagine going there in July/Aug?
We also used to go to Fisher's Landing and Martinez Lake which are north of Yuma, AZ on CO river. We had our trailer there. We also went up to Whiskeytown Lake outside Redding, CA one time. Everything we did in summer was on the water, even took boat out in ocean in San Diego. Ah the good old times.
Wish we had our boat now so we could put it in Highline Lake, a state park lake about 7 1/2 miles from our house now west of Grand Junction, CO. Once you have a boat it's hard to just go to the beach at a lake. We'd love to have a small pontoon boat now tho. Happy Summer to you and yours. Hope you all get to go to Big Bear many more times this summer.

  7. We used to have a speed boat when our kids were little and have the most wonderful memories of good times, too. I would love a small pontoon boat but will settle for renting one now and again. Thank you for your sweet comments. I wish I had a way to respond to you directly but your email is set to no reply blogger. I always enjoy your comments. Thank you for stopping by to share.
