back to the grind stone...

7/19/13

I think I've hit that point in the summer that has me craving a little more structure in life.  Even though my kids are grown and the gentle rhythm of school no longer dictates my schedule, with the beginning of summer still comes the welcome sigh of a more leisurely pace.

Somewhere around mid July though I always start to think about getting back to a routine.  I start to miss having a project with a holiday deadline, I miss fluffing my nest and planning a get together.

So I am officially calling July the last month of my summer holiday.  Come August first the projects around the house will take center stage.  No more loafing around...no more running here and there...no more late nights and later mornings.  It's back to old grind stone for me!

Unless of course, something better comes along...

Have a wonderful weekend friends.

xo, Patty

  2. Patty, You made me laugh...Unless something better comes along...so funny. I know what you mean though..sometimes I want a bit of routine, just so I get things done. Enjoy the last of your summer vacation :):) xoxo, Susie

  3. I am just the opposite. I spent most of June and July doing projects. I am thinking that just sitting on the beach and reading is a good idea. I can consider it cleaning because I will be decreasing the pile of books next to my bed.

  5. Good post. One of the things I enjoy about your blog are your beautiful vivid pictures. May I ask what kind of camera you use? I'll bet you're just one of those great photographers!

  6. I can't stay idle for long! Seems as soon as I put my feet up and take a break my mind starts whirring and thinking up things to do:>) I love to accomplish something so summer is my project time and the time I can make the most of the late sunshine. I bet you have some great ideas whirring around, I look forward to seeing them.

  7. Isn't that the truth!! I too am ready for Fall and all that it brings. But I am afraid we are still in for quite a bit of hot summer left. Darn!
I am having trouble with blogger again, and cannot upload photos? I was having trouble with commenting on others posts last week, and now I can't upload photos again. Sheesh!!
Have a good weekend! Where all did you girls go yesterday? You, Shelly and Elaine?

  8. That's so true but usually for me, it's September that I get the urge to do things. I could loaf all summer, no problem. :)

  9. I love to loaf!!! I hardly get the chance, but I am a pro when I get the chance.
Love fluffing the nest anytime though, and look forward to the fall and winter holidays, too.

  10. I'm quite good at loafing. Especially, now that I am retired. My hubby has been at the lakehouse for two weeks. I stayed at home to keep an eye on things, and had a fabulous time, loafing, napping, reading, a little project here and there.....pure joy!!

  11. I'm still savoring each day of summer although, like you, I feel the need to get more things done. So far, my summer "to do" list has turned into "nothing." ha ha ha Take care and enjoy the rest of July. Susan

  12. Hmmmmm. I'm thinking the reverse. Our summer seems to have sped by Graduation. Daughter's Ministry Trip. and this weekend, our son's graduation party. My hubby has vacation next week. We'll be on a staycation, and I think it's FINALLY time to do some relaxin'! Maybe some late nights and later mornings. We'll see. =)

  13. LOL- That sounds like a good idea, Patty. I have been so busy that I was thinking I would take August OFF...lol It is funny how life ebbs and flows in skids and squirts, isn't it? Have a wonderful weekend- xo Diana

  14. I'm the same way Patty, I find myself "gearing up" for the fall just as August approaches.

Look forward to seeing you next weekend.

  16. I get like that too. About this time every year I secretly start looking forward to the first day of school and making lists of what I want to accomplish. It's not that I don't love summer and having kids around but I miss being able to make my own schedule and get something accomplished guilt free!

  17. "A more leisurely pace" is one of life's blessings.
Treasure it, bid it farewell, and look forward to its return.

  18. I know just what you mean. I will still have kids around until the middle of August, but my schedule will settle in then.
Something about the summer heat makes it necessary to be a little more leisurely about the chores of the day. Love your pitcher of fresh flowers. Just so "fresh".

  19. Hello Patty!

I know what you mean! It feels good to rest but it also is so nice to fluff the house and do projects! :) I {love} your photos, they always make it seem as if I am right there! The flowers are beautiful!

Have a lovely rest of your summer before you head back to routine! :)

    Blessings,
