freshly laundered

4/11/12

I cut into my vintage sheet stash to make this baby quilt for my niece.  She is having her third child any day now.  She has two beautiful daughters and is expecting baby girl number three.

She wanted neutral colors but I couldn't resist just a little touch of pink.  I remember when our choices were pink, blue, yellow or green.  Now the skies the limit.  I added a strip of vintage floral to the back for a splash of color.

Do you remember themed baby rooms?  Is that a thing of the past or do they still exist?  My daughters had a wallpaper border of ballerinas but it could have just as easily been Precious Moments, teddy bears or balloons...

The quilt has been freshly laundered ...snugly soft and crinkled, ready to wrap the little one in love and knowing my niece, there won't be any shortage of that.

xo, Patty

  2. That is just beautiful. I love the sweet colors. She will love it, I'm sure. Yes..they still do themed baby rooms. My son and dil are just finishing theirs up and it is a throwback to the 70's with bedding that looks like it came from that era. It is all owls and leaves...(I guess owls are in again, huh?) xo Diana

  3. What a beautiful baby quilt! I love the idea of using vintage sheets for it. I'm hearing that themed baby room decor is out and decor to grow with is in. Our kids lived with white kitten wall paper and pale blue walls for a while but never a theme. Home made quilts are the best! Blessings, Pamela

  8. Remember when we had no idea what the sex of the baby was? My theme was yellow and orange with zoo animals. Keep it gender neutral but with color. What a lovely quilt and with vintage sheets means snugly soft! Here's to a great day!

  9. Beautiful quilt, where did you find such bright vintage sheets. I always think of old sheets as dirty white with small cabbage roses on them. Such a wonderful gift that will be cherished.

I have been collecting vintage sheets for some time too, and have not yet cut into them. I am hoping to use one for a quilt back. Have you done that? Have a wonderful day my friend!!!!

  19. Awww...I recognize some of those lovely vintage squares! :) My Sweet Pea now sits on her blankie and plays and then carries it around with her. :) I love you dearly for making her that little quilt! (well, I'd love you even if you didn't, but thank you!)
