have you seen these yet?

3/20/12

I went to the bookstore last weekend looking for a new magazine to take with me on a visit to my parents and I hit the jackpot.  Not only did I find the new issue of Where Women Cook but I also found two new magazines, Flea Market Decor and the Premiere issue of Vintage Style.  Have you seen them yet?  You're going to love them.

What a perfect way to enjoy the last couple days of winter...curled up on the sofa, hot chocolate in hand, a fire roaring and vintage goodness to browse through.  (We won't talk about how much this loveliness set me back at the register.)

Please keep my family in prayer as my dad has taken a turn for the worse.  It might seem strange to some that I would post such trivial things during this difficult time but blogging is such a nice retreat and a reminder that life is full of beauty no matter what the circumstances...just like my dad.

xo, Patty

  1. Patty, your Daddy is in my thoughts and prayers. I so understand where you are coming from. I have been through it, and during that I time, I craved the ordinary, in a time that had become so awful. I found comfort in things like birding, and yard work, and of course sought refuge in my family!!! It is so hard. I am thinking of you and your family.
Just yesterday, after taking my dear boy to school, I popped in over at Barnes & Noble, purchased an iced tea, and sat in a comfy chair going through each of those wonderful magazines, page by page. I did not, however purchase a one of them!!! Magazines have become ridiculously expensive!!!! I now only buy the ones I feel I cannot live without. But I may go back for the Vintage Style one!!!
    Thinking of you.

  5. First of all, prayers for your Dad, Patty and for you and your family. You will be in my thoughts as you go through seeing your Dad ill once again.
I haven't read Where Women Cook, but will look for it. I have the other two and just haven't opened them yet. I don't buy many magazines any more...the cost has gotten out of hand, but some are keepers you can look at over and over.
I haven't been here in a while, so will catch up some and wish you a great day.

  6. My father-in-law lived with us over four years and the last few weeks before he passed away (Nov 2011) were difficult.

It was the trivial things that helped us all get through it. Blogging is a wonderful retreat...and retreats are necessary when stress is crowding in on us. I'll be praying for you, your dad and your family.

    Yep...I got both magazines...love them!

  7. Hot chocolate and fires! Girl, it's 85 degrees here -- I've even got my super duper annual itchy rashy flare-up leading up to ye old shot in the you know where, and a pack of steroids.

You and your father are in my thoughts and prayers. I think it's important to feed your soul through what delights you, especially in difficult times.

  9. Sometimes we need that quiet time curled up with a magazine to entertain our thoughts. I don't have Where Women Cook - yet. But I have read from cover to cover the other two.

I will keep you, your Dad and your entire family in my thoughts and prayers!

  17. Oh certainly I will keep your dad in my prayers.

I have seen those magazines, but I don't buy many magazines anymore. The cost has just gotten out of hand. I can't even pick up vintage ones at a decent price anymore.

  22. Hi Patty,

You are getting the kind of weather that we should be having here in Michigan. It's been in the 70's and it's supposed to be 80 degrees tomorrow. Trees and flowers are already blooming!

It's the seemingly trivial things that get us through the day especially when loved ones are facing challenges. In my opinion your post is anything but trivial. You are comforting your soul with activities that you enjoy and there is nothing trivial about that. I'm a relatively new follower of your blog. You have my support and you and your father are in my prayers. Hot choc and great magazines are a perfect way to enjoy 40 degree weather.

  23. Hi Patty ~ yes, I have seen those magazines...browsed through them at B&N last weekend. I am a new reader of your blog (which is so lovely!) so I don't know what's going on with your dad, but I'm really sorry to hear that he's not doing well. God's blessings to him and your family. I hope that you will pop over to my blog, take a look, and say hello. :-)

  25. First off-prayers for your Dad. I blog in troubled times, too, because it helps me focus on something besides the "awful"...it is therapeutic for me.

I did see those magazines and actually did a mini-post on the Vintage Style one. I am really TRYING to cut back on my magazine purchases...but I do love my magazines.

Hope you have a good week-xo Diana

I looked at a Vintage Style magazine at the store yesterday...$9.99! Wow - too expensive for me, although it looked like a fun magazine.

I recently wrote a post about magazines - check it out!

  29. Yes, I've seen both of those magazines. In fact, I have those issues. When one is stressed out over the big things, it's the little things in life that get us through.
