My thoughts this morning are of the decorating kind. I’ve been busy making lists of what I’d like to accomplish around the house, what’s working and what’s not, what I can realistically accomplish before the hustle and bustle of the holidays. Sometimes I almost wish that I could wipe the slate clean and start my decorating from scratch. To somehow go back to that sense of excitement I had when we first moved into Lemon Lane Cottage.
It seems I’ve been giving advice that I really need to follow myself. Do you ever do that? I caution others not to settle, to hold out for what they truly love and yet, as I look around my own little cottage I see areas that I put together in haste only to never really love the results and grow dissatisfied with my own surroundings.
So…this weekend, with the AC blasting, I have started to take down everything in my house that I don’t still (or never have) been totally smitten with. I will fill in the holes, retouch the paint and reassess. Leaving walls, shelves and counters empty for a while if necessary, until I find just the right piece that makes my heart sing.
I’ll keep you posted on the progress…
good luck with your re-style and re-fresh plan. it sounds like a good one. i was just thinking today of that william morris quote, 'have nothing in your house that isn't useful and/or beautiful'.

That is a GREAT idea! To take down those things that we aren't smitten with and just leave it bare until the right piece comes along! When we moved in our house 11 years ago I told myself NOT to put things...just to have something...but I did! Need to follow your leading and do the same!
ReplyDeleteHope your weekend is wonderful...
Blessings,

This is all so pretty!!! Oh my we are in our 60plus days of over 100 plus degrees...we are so tired of it...A/C hasn't stopped for months.
ReplyDeleteI love taking things all down from all my walls and then rearrange...I then feel I have a new house...since I am now in a new house I am starting from scratch...enjoy your decorating.
Sounds like a fab way to rejuvinate your home! Looking forward to the progress. And am enjoying a Beth Moore Bible study right now. Couldn't help but admire your lovely stack of them ;-)
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping by my cozy kitchen and leaving such a thoughtful comment!!
ReplyDeleteYour blog here is so pretty! I'm anxious to see how your new decor will look. Oh, and I also love Beth Moore! (I noticed your stack of books.)
Have a blessed day,
Leslie
Have fun restyling. I just need to clear out the room full of stuff I already don't use anymore. It is going to the consignment shop as soon as it cools some here.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of taking things down that are not still working for you and leaving the space empty for awhile. I have several spaces that I need to do this! Thank you for stopping by Three Pixie Lane! Christie
ReplyDeleteGood luck! There's no reason to keep things that you don't truly love.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great idea! It will be enjoyable to start from scratch, and to create the look you feel happy with now. Every now and then we need to change our surroundings...that is, if you're the interiors-loving kind of person that many of us are! Have a fun time with your home styling...I look forward to seeing what you do in the future.

I sooooo totally know what you mean. I am ready for a change as autumn draws near and I will probably rearrange things a hundred times before I make it "just right" (for me that is).
ReplyDeleteYour blog is so sweet
