Am I the only who woke up at 4:30 this morning to take the decorations off the tree and drag it out to the curb before the green waste comes for pick up today? I imagine I probably am. As much as I love the holidays, I am always ready to restore order just as soon as the festivities are over. There is just something about the New Year that requires order.
This Christmas season was a year of transitions for our household. Kids moving forward with their lives (which is so very good and just as it should be) and hubby and I settling into the "just us" mode. The former I gave into a bit (okay, I was a tad reluctant...okay, very...okay, kicking and screaming...)reluctantly. The latter I think I'm going to love.
As selfish as it sounds, 2015 is going to be the year we rediscover us. The year I find that passion for life I been searching for and start pursuing it every day. Bring on the New Year!
xo, Patty
Patty, Some times we almost lose our identity raising children, working,& tending a home..time to be you again. Time to have nice dinner dates , or Sundays out with your man. Blessings for a fabulous New Year. xoxo,Susie.
ReplyDeleteNo, you are not alone! But I am still in bed, sipping coffee!!! I will be eager to restore order in the next few days too!!!!
ReplyDeleteXO Kris
Not selfish at all. It's a good feeling and very peaceful.
ReplyDeletemy sentiments exactly!!!!!! I always love my house at CHristmas but then I feel like its too cluttered and I too want order!!!!! bring on 2015..and let the creativity begin!!!
ReplyDeleteYou go girl! Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteI wanted to take our tree down today too (it's artificial due to us burning wood for heat here). My kids said no. They want to wait until January 1st. It is a good feeling to restore order.
ReplyDeleteNot selfish at all Patty! When our kids move on I think it is essential for us to get the focus back on our own lives. You have dedicated yourself to the kids for years and they have done what they are supposed to do, they get a life of their own. Now it's your turn. That doesn't mean you leave them behind, it just means you find a bit more of yourself again. I'm in the same place with my kids, and it has not been easy to change my focus. I will slowly take things down and organize and put them away for next year in the coming week. It always makes the house feel so fresh to pack it away!
ReplyDeleteGood luck and best wishes for 2015.
ReplyDeleteGreen pick up is good and so is a life that is in order.
Your artwork is so pretty. I totally understand the restoring of order. I didn't put up a tree, just had little vignettes. But they're already tucked away.

Well, I certainly didn't get up at 4:30 (especially since I didn't go to bed until 1 a.m.!), but I did "de-Christmas" the entire house today. I also went to Target AND went grocery shopping, so I'm a little bit wiped out right now. We're in the same boat with being empty nesters now. I'm still working on discovering myself. :-)
ReplyDeleteI always leave my decorations up until Twelf Night, 5th January. That is traditional in the UK. The superstition is that if you leave Christmas decorations up after that date it is bad luck. I love having the tree and decorations up for as long as possible. That also justifies the effort of getting them out in the first place! I can't bear how 'bare' the house looks once the decorations come down. It always takes me a few days to get over that feeling. I'm sure you will enjoy being Two again. The children will no doubt visit, probably bringing all their laundry and mending for you to do!
ReplyDeleteSorry, that should read Twelfth Night!!!! It is early and still dark here in Britain!!!
ReplyDeleteWishing you many blessings in 2015! Unlike you, I enjoy my tree and decorations even more now that the Christmas season is here and leave it up until the end of the season on Jan. 6th. No matter what, enjoy the season. Merry Christmas to you & yours!
ReplyDeleteI'm a New Year's kind of girl! I love new beginnings and new goals. Unfortunately, my husband is just the opposite and he is already mourning the dismantling of the Christmas tree!
ReplyDeleteWe too are moving toward the "just us" season, although for now, we have our 15 year old still here. Our 21 year old is now married and this was our first year without him here on Christmas morning. Very different and I'm not going to lie....it felt kind of empty for a bit.
Here's to a new year and all that it will bring!
Blessings!
Good for you, Patty! Happiest of New Years to you!

Patty, seeing the shifting with our kids moving on too as they get older. I struggle with letting the go (yes a little tears), but I realize it is a good thing... just wish my heart wouldn't hurt. Wishing you a wonderful New Year!
ReplyDeleteI became an empty nester 8 years ago and it has been wonderful! Hubby and I have gone back to the times when it was just him and I, and we are like 20 year olds! I get to see my girls all the time so it isn't that bad. :) Kit
ReplyDeletePatty,
ReplyDeleteMy age must have something to do with the excessive amount of time it is taking me to get the Christmas decor down!
That's my story. . .and I'm stickin' to it!!! (wink!)
During my years as an Educator, I always told my students, "Follow Your Heart"!!!
Looking forward to seeing what 2015 holds for you!!!
Fondly,
Pat
It was nice to stop here and catch up with you Patty! I hope the new year brings you everything you wish for and then some!
