wishing for tea and scone time

I know it's only August and we are in the midst of the hottest temps of the year but earlier in the week after re watching (yes, I have several saved at any given time) an episode of the Pioneer Woman, I broke out the butter and flour and whipped up a batch of her Maple Pecan Scones.

Of course, I didn't have pecans or maple extract (I haven't been able to locate the real stuff) so I settled for walnuts and imitation maple flavoring.

It had been a long while since I made scones from scratch, having developed an unhealthy obsession with Trader Joe's version, but they turned out pretty good.

I pressed my dough a little thinner than hers so that I could get a few more out of the batch for sharing and my maple icing was a bit thin and yes, my patience wore out and I put it on before they were completely cooled and yes, I sampled one before the icing had a chance to set, but the recipe is definitely a keeper.

(I'm seeing a major issue with patience riddled all throughout this post, are you?  Got to work on that...lol.)

I know some of you in colder climates are hanging on to every last day of summer but I am definitely ready for autumn.  I even stopped in at Home Goods and picked up a little candy corn wooden garland yesterday.  I've made a vow to myself that the totes of fall decor won't come out until the first of September but I have to tell you I am struggling with that one already.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on my last post.  I'm hoping to respond and visit with each of you this weekend.  Just know I'll be typing with one hand and finishing off the last of the scones with other, so if you find a few crumbs or typos you'll know why.

xo, Patty

  1. Hi Patty! Your scones look delish and sometimes we have to improvise with ingredients! You set up a pretty vignette too. The blue cup is so pretty and I spy some Pyrex! I just love vintage Pyrex! Take care.
    be a sweetie,

  2. I LOVE scones. I don't bake them very often though as I would eat the entire batch by myself. These look scrumptious. Love the colors in your teacup. I wanted to stop and say thank you for stopping by my blog and choosing to join. That was very sweet. And, oh by the way, an elephant ear is a small piece of dough that has been pulled into the shape of an ear, deep fried and then rolled in cinnamon sugar. You have probably eaten one called by a different one.

  3. Patty, I have only eaten scones twice...I just loved them. I do not know why I don't make them...Maple flavor just sounds so good. I may have to try to make some. I miss your fashion Wednesdays. Hope you are doing well honey. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

  5. I was almost tempted to buy a vanilla bean scone at Starbucks a couple days ago. Instead I used my reward bonus to get a s'mores tart for Conner. Imagine a Graham cracker tart crust holding a chocolate filling with a marshmallow on top. They heat it long enough to toast the marshmallow into a golden puff and the chocolate filIing is melted and warm. I couldn't resist asking for a taste. It was too good... I stop there every other week to purchase a pound of blond roast coffee beans. Those treats are tempting there in the display case and even more so now that I know what I've been missing. I will have to avert my eyes while waiting in line to hand over my bag of coffee beans to be ground. I'm looking forward to cooler temps and fall treats made with pumpkin and spices.

  6. These scones sound good.. though the thing I crave most are maple bars! I love maple! I have to eat gluten free, and so far have NOT found any gluten free maples bars, though I've searched far and near. I'm going to have to give in and make some myself.. that maple frosting... oh so good....... though maple pecan scones may come in a close 2nd.

  8. I love Fall, it is my favorite time of year! It has been so hot & humid here in IL. I spent most of my life living in NY state and the past nine years in IL and I'm still not used to the long, hot Illinois summers! I'm ready for Fall!

  10. I've been craving scones too! There are some fresh peaches in my fruit bowl and I think I may try a recipe for peach scones I found. P.S. I'm one of those northerners holding on to summer as long as possible - it's gone so fast!
