reclaiming my home

6/10/15

Every time I get the urge to purge and rearrange things here at home I start by opening up my favorite home organization and simplifying books.  They always remind me of the way I want my home to flow and feel for everyday living.

I have several books that I've collected over the years, some talk about making your home more inviting and cozy or being a more welcoming and a gracious hostess, some talk about purging and organizing, some are more like a how to manual for homekeeping and some are all about living a simpler life, all things that I want my home to be.

This time I opened one of my very favorites Simple Country Wisdom. by Susan Waggoner.  The pictures are beautiful and the words remind you of what's important and encourage you with practical ways to get back to a simpler way of life.  I bought mine a few years ago and found it today on Amazon with a different cover but same content.  (No affiliate, just wanted to be sure it was still out there.)

The only problem I have with the book is that once it's open I get caught up in it and before I know it my day is gone and so is the time I marked out to get started.  Does that ever happen to you?  Oh well, as Scarlett O'Hara would say, tomorrow is another day!

I'll be back soon to show you my progress in reclaiming my life here in the cottage and to share with you what I'm doing to rediscover what living a beautiful life everyday is to me.

Have a great Wednesday.

xo, Patty

  4. Patty, Your images are lovely! Thanks for the book recommendation. I ordered a used copy via Amazon for a VERY minimal cost. :)

  5. I have never heard of this book, but now I have to search it out. There is so much to learn at any age and so much we need to be reminded of. I am looking forward to more on this subject :)

  7. Funny that I've collected ALOT of similar books! some on decorating, some on making your home more "you".. some on small space living (I like living small) and some on cottage style living (I love cottages and bungalows). Though we rent right now, I'm dreaming of owning again.. but if that can't happen, then I'm going to try to make my rental more "mine" and not feel like I'm just a visitor here! Again you inspired me! I probably have some of the same books you have stacked on your darling stool.

  8. One of my favorite things to see on a blog is a stack of books and to know what other people are reading. I know I have several of those but will have to check some others out!

  10. Love Alexandra Stoddard. I have many of her books. And you are so right....days cluster together and before you know it....365 of them have accumulated and then gone. I will be 55 in November and I if there is something I want to do....I better get with it. Life happens either way.

  11. Wonderful post and topic. I have many of those books and I also love Alexandra Stoddard's books too. I also have the Country Wisdom book and refer back to it from time to time. I'm trying to get ready to downsize but in the same vein I have to enjoy each day as I move towards that too. Enjoy!
