expecting perfection

6/5/15

Do you seek perfection?  In your home, your family, your friends, your life?  If that question were posed to me I would emphatically say, no.  I am not a perfectionist...I am a get er done kind of girl.

But life has been showing me lately that I do...seek perfection.  And when people fail to live up to my expectations I am disappointed and sad and hurt and even angry.

My devotion from this morning said this, "Remember that you live in a fallen world: an abnormal world tainted by sin.  Much frustration and failure result from your seeking perfection in this life. There is nothing perfect in this world except Me...Most people seek fulfillment in other people and earthly pleasures or achievements.  Thus they create idols, before which they bow down.  I will have no other gods before Me!  Make me the deepest desire of your heart.  Let Me fulfill your yearning for perfection."  Sarah Young - Jesus Calling

"Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart's desires."  Psalm 37:4

Once again I am reminded where my focus should be.  What I need to let go of and what I need to cling to and it's not anyone or anything in this world.  It is in the only One who ever was and ever will be perfect.  Life is a lot easier that way.

  1. Thank you for this reminder Patty. I think we also see other people's failures and imperfections before our own. When I find myself getting critical I try to remember to remind myself that I have made mistakes and bad choices too. It is too easy to get trapped in the mindset of critical thinking and disappointment.

  3. Patty, I think all parents will hope for perfection in their families....it's not always possible. But prayer helps there. The same goes for our friends at times. We need to look inward at times. Let's realize life is tough for us at times...well it may seem even tougher for others. Prayers sweet girl. xoxo,Susie

  6. I knew before I got to the bottom of the reading that it was from Jesus Calling. I love that little book as well as My Utmost for His Highest by Oswald Chambers. They add so much to my daily reading. I need to remind myself each day that I'm not perfect and I live in an imperfect world - but this world is not my final destination. Thanks for the post.

  8. Patty, I think we seek perfection because we are our Father's children.

Lord knows, I try.....I do my best and give the rest to Him.
