summer favorites

5/29/14

I'm not much of a summer girl anymore.  I much prefer Spring with it's mild temperatures and ever abundant blooms.  While so much of the U.S. has experienced a longer than usual cold winter, we Southern Californian's have had just the opposite conditions with warmer than normal days, already hitting the triple digits a few times.  To be honest, the thought of what summer will bring is a bit discouraging at this point.  (Can it really get much hotter than it already is?)

Like it or not summer is just around the corner so I thought I would take the optimistic approach to the changing season and make a list of all the things I look forward to the most as the days grow longer.

1.  Barbeques and casual dinners.
2.  Sunflowers and daisies in abundance.
3.  Lazy mornings and less structured days.
4.  Ice cream cones
5.  The smell of sunscreen.
6.  Trips to the beach.
7.  Summer vegetables.
8.  Watermelons and peaches.
9.  Campfires
10. Movies in the park.
11. More daylight hours.
12. Back to school supplies on sale.
13. So You Think You Can Dance returns.
14. Flip flops and sandals.
15.Trips to the garden center.

Okay, now it's your turn to add to the list.  I know I forgot something...

What would make your favorite things about summer list?

xo, Patty

  2. Great list! I'm going to make one of those too.

Summer is daunting in Texas too but right now it's still pleasant. Soon it will be 100+ for days and days in a row.

  4. Hi Patty. I LOVE the blocks you are making!!! So darling!! I just read the posts I missed. Glad you had a nice trip to Mom's for BBQ. I had to laugh at "Material Day" Oh yes, we need one of those!!!
I am not looking forward to summer either. But there are a lot of things about summer, that I do so enjoy. The lake for one!!!!! Lounging all day on the boat, as it gently bobs up and down. Greg fishing, me crocheting. Ahhhh....can't wait.
We must get together soon. I miss you ladies!!

  5. The longer daylight hours definitely! I have decided I must have that syndrome - whatever it is - where you have to have sunshine on a daily basis. I so look forward to the long days and being able to be outside doing things at 8-9 o'clock at night.

  7. I think you hit all my favorites Patty! Longer days being high on my list. I just love your work. Although I have dabbled in a lot of arts, collage is one I have never really explored. I can't imagine how you get some of the beautiful effects you do. Love it all!

  8. Beautiful art! Love them . . .

Summer berry picking is big around here. Then making freezer jam. Day hikes. Day trips. Early morning breakfast picnics in the park before the heat of the day. Late night walks through the neighborhood when everyone has left their curtains open and you can take sneaky peeps inside from the sidewalk. :)
