and sometimes life happens...

11/11/14

If you've been reading this blog for any length of time you know how fond I am of lists and schedules.  I love to plan and organize and imagine what my days, weeks and months will look like.  I do not do well with the unexpected, hectic or chaotic, it makes me a bit unsettled and nervous.

I like to control what I can all the while knowing I am not really in control of anything and trusting completely in the One who is.

I am a firm believer in preparation for events and even the everyday.  I think most people appreciate knowing that their days have a certain order and familiarity to them, so I do my best to stay on top of things.  Sometimes I succeed and sometimes life happens.

This last month or so has had a lot of the "life happens" stuff in it.  Some of it fun, like baby showers, redecorating and babysitting but some of it has been hard to understand like watching my brother face a serious illness and courageously encouraging everyone around him as he does what is needed to beat it.  (He is undergoing intense treatment but the prognosis is good, thank God.)

I sent my sister in law a quick text of encouragement last week reminding her that before the foundation of the earth God knew that she and my brother would walk this walk and that He had spent her life equipping her and surrounding her with people to come along side her.  Today she paid back those encouraging words with a few of her own.  She said that God placed me within 10 minutes of the hospital that would be treating my brother to use me as a sweet blessing to them.  To be her feet for errands and her arms for additional comfort.

So if I am a bit spotty in my posts over the next month or so and you think of me, pray that all is well and that I can be what and where I am needed most and that I never lose sight of the Author and Perfecter of life.

xo, Patty

  3. Prayers said. I know what you mean about life happening. The last 10 months has been filled with dealing with my mom's cancer. (doing well for now-thank God) Terminal, but good for now. I also like to think that I am in "control" of my life. Any little thing can really be upsetting. I have strong emotions.
I don't know what your brothers condition is, but am wishing him the best. It sounds like he has a great support system going on.

  4. I'm a planner, too, but sometimes -- frequently -- life just happens. Had the last few weeks mapped out, but a friend's husband passed away, another friend was diagnosed with cancer and a third friend was in the hospital. Life happens and I need to move my plans around. Prayers for your brother's recovery.

  5. Hi Patty, planning as we will, we never really know what life has for us, right around the corner. Bless your heart . . . you are in my prayers and so is your brother.

  7. Oh, Patty. I know what you are going through. I lost my only brother a year and half ago to a fast-moving, very aggressive cancer with only a 2% cure rate. I am praying for your brother, his family and for you, too. Stay strong but lean when you need to. xo Diana
