2018 - THE YEAR TO GROW

1/16/18

Every time I think I'm finding my blogging groove once again a nasty thing called time pulls on me with it's finite limits and fickle interruptions and before I know it a week or two has passed me by and I have failed to put words to page once again.  But short of rewinding the clock (and I have yet to figure out how to do that and if I would care to any way) I need to let go of my lack of perfection in the past and just pursue the possibility of today.

I have decided 2018 is my year to "grow".  As a gardener this has me excited in so many ways but
mostly because it presents the chance for any tiny seed of a dream to sprout into one more flower in the beautifully imperfect and willy nilly garden that is my life.

One of the things you quickly learn when you try to grow things in the ground is that not all seeds will bloom to their fullest.  Some will remain dormant beneath the surface, some will peek out only to be pinched off before they are big enough to flower, some will grow and be crowded out by weeds and others will burst forth in places you hadn't intended and put on the biggest show of all.

But that is where the excitement of gardening lies, isn't it?  Being brave enough to cast the seeds and having faith to know that if they are well watered and fertilized a few of them will blend into the tapestry of a truly deep and varied garden full of unexpected pops of color and yes, an occasional weed that needs to be pulled.

If we wanted perfection, we would settle for a beautiful but stagnant painting.

There was a time when I thought that was the goal, the ultimate dream...a safe and pretty life.  But now I can look back and see that those imperfections, those weeds, are what has made me see the beauty of the flowers that have sprouted in my life's garden all the clearer.

Here's to a 2018 full of growth!  May your flowers be many and your weeds be manageable and few.

xo, Patty

  2. Hope you don't mind a sort of off-the-wall question, but I was wondering where you got your planners & the pad your computer keyboard / mouse are sitting on? They are SO up my alley and love the colors and would love them for my work office desk!

  3. Hello Patty, Grow. Well, I've never been a very good gardener and I've learned to accept that. A few flowers in pots in the summer and some marigolds in the garden and that's about it. Accepting my own limitations and skills is important too. :-)
I'm pretty good about checking blogs most days, but Instagram is where I really fall short. I forget about it for days on end and then I feel so guilty. There isn't enough time to do everything is there?
I hope your day is a wonderful one.
    Blessings,
    Betsy
